RIP.  Four seasons here as a player, and 12 total seasons as a head coach / assistant coach.  He's got as many rings as Larry Bird!  And, a better mustache.

I always thought he did a really good job with that '90-91 squad.  [dang] shame that age & injuries did them in.   Would've been fun to see a Bulls/Celtics conference finals.

I always think of Chris Ford the coach.



How many of ya'll knew somebody that looked like Chris Ford?  If you tell me to picture a white, middle aged, middle class professional in the 80's/early 90's, I'm picturing Chris Ford.  He could be a principal, Algebra teacher, accountant, insurance salesman, lawyer, middle manager, etc.  He just has that look. 

I had a friend's dad that I thought looked like him, plus a guy at my church.

This one's a bit of a surprise. Was a player here in '81 which I guess feels recent - very different than prior era players like Russell and Tommy.  I hope he had a full life.  Seemed like a good guy.

I agree. He didn't have a terrific supporting cast and the prime guys were aging but his teams were competitive.  He came to the Celtics the season before Bird's arrival and then was around to watch everything change.

He and Tiny Archbald were the starting backcourt in Bird's first season.

I vividly remember, like it was yesterday, when Chris Ford hit the first 3 point shot in NBA history. Johnny Most went crazy.  It was 1979. It was Larry Bird's first game as a Celtic. 

Arguably the most transitory shot in NBA history.

I was there!  I still have the very understated stub. 

Ford was a steadying influence to the team as both a player and coach.  Such a great era he ushered in.

I loved that team!  Great size, nice mix of youth and experience.

He was an important part of that '81 title team.
