probably a good start - from today's article

Gerald Green - couldn't find his way out of a wet paper bag but boy could he dunk.  (Pick 18)
Kedrick Brown - see Green, Gerald except that it was pick 11
Eric Montross - 9th pick, center of the future, lasted 2 years
Jerome Moiso - 11th pick, lasted a year
Joe Forte - Maybe Red's worst pick ever but it only cost us a 21st pick
Michael Smith - drafted ahead of Tim Hardaway, Shawn Kemp and others

Worst pick was the first one: Charlie Share - #1 pick in 1950, over Bob Cousy.  Never played a minute in green.

Yeah, we got Cousy anyway, but he had to nearly quit the league to be a driving instructor, then get signed by a team that promptly folded, then Boston had to LOSE a dispersal draft to get him here.  Very lucky sequence of events to make up for a really bad pick.

How about Ron Mercer? 6th overall. Picked ahead of T-Mac.

Montross was likely the worst though.

In my opinion you have to look at the position the player was picked in and what very good players were drafted after him. So I don't think Gerald Green counts. It has to be a lottery pick.

This might be looked upon as very dirty but to me the worst draft pick the Celtics ever picked was Len Bias.

I guess technically you could argue he was a good pick, but a tragic result or something.  I just still feel frustration about that. That whole thing was sorta traumatic for some people. Growing up I thought of cocaine in the same way that I now think of cyanide or possibly mustard gas.  Maybe that's a good thing and I should be thankful

Even though he was #30 Jr Giddens is still a tough one to me. There was major quality that got picked not too far after him, which could have really helped

I guess you can't really say Rick Pittino was a draft pick.

Does anyone know if ML Carr was a draft pick? Because that set us up for a very difficult future

I have never enjoyed the Montross dumping.  As opposed to Acie Earl?   I'm not sure what's up with this. I think it might have been the high hopes people had for him.

I always find the international picks that never show up to be annoying. Like Andrei Fetisov, Ben Peppers, and to a less extent Darius Songalia

I don't mind the Montross pick, especially since we were able to trade him (and the draft rights to Samaki Walker) for Antoine Walker + a 1st rounder (Ron Mercer).

The pick I hated was the Kedrick Brown selection.  First, we took him over a bunch of guys who became NBA contributors (Richard Jefferson, Troy Murphy, Zach Randolph, Brendan Haywood, Gerald Wallace, Sam Dalembert, Tony Parker, Gilbert Arenas, Mehmet Okur).

Second, we had the option of rolling that pick over for up to two seasons.  In 2002, Denver ended up with the #5 pick.  Guys on the board:  Nene, Amare, Caron Butler.  If for whatever reason we'd passed on it then (which is doubtful), in 2003 Denver ended up with the #3 pick (Carmelo, Bosh, Wade, etc.)
