He looked pretty good at times for the Blazers.  Not enough minutes in Portland.  I wonder how much PT he'll get for the Hornets.
Yup

I wonder if this is the death knell of the Rudy F trade rumors.

Interesting. So does he start or do the 6th man role?

Can he play 2 guard?  He's not going to take CP's job and Collison's gone.

I imagine he'll play a role very similar to the one Barbosa played in PHO. Keeping CP3 under 35 or 37 MPG, and playing some at the 2. I bet he gets a solid 20 a game there, or more.

If they're looking to be strong defensively on the wing and push the ball on offense, perhaps Bayless should start alongside CP3 and Ariza.  That would be something to see...

Solid trade for the hornets. they get a good young backup for CP3 and decent off-guard to use at times.

Blazers are stacked so they wont lose any gusto from this. Saves some money on the trade exception and could be a decent 1st rounder aswell this year (though it is top 7 protected).

Hornets are starting to look solid - not sure if it'll be enough to keep CP, but it's not for lack of trying.

Hold on, so that means Fernandez is the backup PG in Portland?!

Smart move, Bayless has struggled mightily for the Blazers and showed a lack of development in his two years there. The chances of him coming good are minimal.

The first round pick is the more valuable asset. Nicely done.

Wow, just looked at the conditions for the draft pick. There is barely any lottery protection on that. Top seven in 2011, top 8 from there on.

This is an absolute steal for Portland. Very likely that they are going to get a low lottery pick (11th-14th range) next summer from this deal. Nicely done.

-------------------------------------------------

This is the third wasted asset by the Hornets this summer. Their 2010 lottery pick (#11), trading D.Collsion for a role player (Ariza) and now trading their 2011 lottery pick.

This has all but decided that Chris Paul will force his way out of NOH over the next 12-24 months and New Orleans' gross mismanagement only has themselves to blame for it.

Wes Matthews will probably be the backup, "PG". Though in true I think either Andre Miller or Brandon Roy will always be in the game.

Yeah, I think the Blazers did pretty well for themselves in this trade.

The Blazers got a nice asset in this deal, but am I the only one who doesn't think New Orleans will be in the lottery this year?

They were 37-45 last year with Chris Paul for only half a season, and a significantly weaker supporting cast around him.  Ariza is a very good defensive wing who's shooting % should improve with Paul feeding him.  Bayless hasn't lived up to his potential but gives them some scoring off the bench, which they desperately need.  He should help keep Paul's minutes down, and can play some 2-guard situationally.  There are still big holes in the bench and at the starting 2, but they have Peja's expiring which could address some of these needs.

In a vacuum they might be better off keeping their pick, but they seem to be going all-in to keep Paul around.  I don't know if he'll stay, but with their current roster I see them as a 5-7 seed in the West at this point, and depending on what they do with Stojakovic, maybe able to slide up to the 4 spot.

There is no clear call here on whether Bayless has a lower or higher value than a pick.  Value is a judgment of the beholder.  He played for the coach before at Portland, so we can presume that N'Owlins knows what they're getting.  He's got a couple of NBA years under him, which probably puts him ahead of whatever rookie might come in next year...and he's available *this* year, which makes him more valuable than, say, nobody.

And NO didn't give up Collison for Ariza.  They gave up Collison to get rid of Posey and brought back Ariza, a good defender who is much quicker, versatile, and able to run the floor with CP3.  Collison is solid, but has limited value behind CP3.  That deal was a significant makeover for NO.  Bringin in Bayless (who I think will get lots o'minutes at the 2, possibly starting) furthers the effort.

I like it.
