Sources: The Los Angeles Clippers proposed a blockbuster deal to the Minnesota Timberwolves involving forward Blake Griffin and center Karl-Anthony Towns. Full story coming on @BBallInsiders.

LOL why would the Wolves do this??   ???

Anyways it makes me wonder what the Clippers are thinking. Playoff push? Sell? Who knows...

But this came out of NOWHERE and caught me (and a ton of others) by surprise.

I think the key word is "proposed". I think Minnesota would turn down Blake and Jordan combined for KAT. They would've shot this down cold.

Interesting that the Clips might already be looking to cut bait on Griffin's fresh new max contract, though.

If I was Wolves GM, I'll shut this down immediately even if the Clippers include Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Austin Rivers, and Lou Williams lol.

Got to say think there might be some smoke here from Minnesota's end. Back when they were underperforming last year and at the start of the season, I couldn't believe some of the things I was reading from Minny fans.

They were fed up with Towns.

This is the fan base of the team built by KG and I've seen these guys go hard at their young superstar for not playing enough defense, and coming across as not passionate enough when they were losing.

It really made me wonder if Towns could actually be the target instead of Anthony Davis since matching up Towns with Horford would be uniting arguably the two best Dominican players in league history who we know have respect for each other.

But then Minny figured it out and are looking like the top 4-6 team in the league that they always looked like on paper. Towns should be there to stay but there was a time when things were starting to look dicey for his future in Minnesota, guessing Doc Rivers felt the same way.

Wonder if Minny would consider a Horford, Marcus, terry, #Lakerspick deal?

Yeah, this would've never ever happened and I could never see how the Wolves could justify trading their young Dominican superstar for someone like Blake. Without at least consulting someone like the Celtics, 76ers, or anyone else with more fruitful assets.

I would do that. KAT in my eyes under Stevens...? Oh my. I wouldn't give up Marcus if I'm losing Terry though..

I can understand the "proposal" but the "discussion" part of it seems pretty outlandish to me.

Yeah, it's rather bizarre. The Clippers are offering an older, worse, less healthy player whose salary is five times higher... and have no other desirable assets to add. The only "discussion" that would have occurred on this is the *click* of the phone in Minneapolis.

I agree about Griffin being older and more expensive. However, I wouldn't say Towns is a better player. To me, Griffin is the more impactful player of the two. Other than his rookie season, the Clippers have been a playoff team every year since. I don't think you can underestimate his impact on that Clippers organization, who have historically been one of the worst in all of sports. The drafting of Griffin changed all of that. If it wasn't for the acquisition of Jimmy Butler, I'm not so sure Minnesota would be anywhere near the playoff race. For me, Towns reminds me of the Greek Freak were both players put up great individual numbers, but they can't figure out how to translate their talent into team success.

The article made it clear that Minnesota didn't entertain any discussions at all, so none of the other financial assets were discussed.  It also didn't indicate when the discussions occurred.

This does mean that Blake Griffin is very much available, which has me a bit concerned about the Cavs or some other Eastern team acquiring him.  Obviously asking for Towns means the Clippers value him very highly, but they are clearly open to moving him, and the longer that lingers the more appealing Love + BKN might be (and I do think that is an upgrade for the Cavs).

Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
