I went to have my vehicle inspected the other day and the guy told me before we even started that I needed to get new license plates because the old ones were pretty much illegible at this point and would fail the inspection.  So I figured I'd order me some spiffy new Celtics plates and support the Children's Hospital etc...The sign up system was really "amateur" looking and it didn't hook up directly with the DMV at all.

Has anyone ordered Celtics plates?  How long was the turnaround?

I've seen some on cars, so the system must work somehow.  It was just kinda mysterious.

Would it be presumptuous of me nominate this for "Thread of the Year"?  ;)

Actually, I would think presumption and self-nomination go pretty much hand-in-hand ... so go for it! (I'll second it) ;)

Maybe you should ask Edgar! ;) (I'd help if I could, but I'm in Maine now, and not familiar with the system in MA ... I was hoping my "bump" might bring someone who could answer your query).

Thanks Bahku.  ;D

No doubt Edgar is an authority on the comings and goings of the Mass. DMV!

Here is my experience with the license plates up to now.

I signed up for them when they first announced that they were going to do them - about 3 years ago?  I gave them my CC # for payment and filled out the application.  After many months I had still not heard anything and asked the lady at Celtics customer service at one of the games what was going on.  She told me they cannot release thw plates until they have 1500 paid applicants.  OK.  I figured within a few months I would be hearing from them to come pick them up at the RMV....nope.  Sometime in the middle of the '08 season I got a call from the C's.  They said that they were no longer taking credit cards and I'd have to send a check - so I did.  I called a couple weeks later to confirm that it had arrived and it had.

So here I am waiting all this time for my plates and still nothing.  I can't imagine that they have not had 1500 people sign up for them in over 3 years.  Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.!  I have not seen any on the streets and would imagine that if they had been released that I would have been contacted.  I could be wrong, but I don't think they have been released yet.  I will try calling C's customer service next week and post back here with any updates.

I also signed up for this license plate when first came out, almost 4 years ago.  I had a similar experience, but I sent in a check.  It had been so long that the check expired and they asked me to send out another.

I was told over the summer that they were expecting to have 1500 sign ups soon and that I should expect to hear from the DMV this winter.

I'm not holding my breath, but it has been a long time coming.

You mean there was more interest in the Bruins plates than the Celts plates? Whatever. Shenanigans! Shenanigans!

there needs to be 1500 people registered/signed up for the plates.  the problem is that of the 4 major sports, the celts were the last to offer a plate (there was even a bball hall of fame plate available b4 celts).  so many of the sports fans in the state have gotten other sports and there arent many other people left over.  i still find it odd there hasnt been enough interest in the plates over the course of the few yrs it was offered.  im assuming the aforementioned reason, along with tough economic times attributes to the issue.

Thanks guys.  Being that my inspection expires at the end of the month I'd best hop on some generic plates.
