Why no Wyatt Earp? It was highly publicized/advertised starring Kevin Costner.

Because it was a terrible movie?

Haha. Could be. Film had a USD 63M budget but could only muster a little over a third of that in the box office. I thought Costner, Quaid and Hackman were more than enough to make the movie click and attractive.

Will Smith called. Feels snubbed and won't come to the award ceremony.

Also received negative RSVP's from Owen Wilson, Jackie Chan and Jamie Foxx.

Sharon Stone is definitely disappointed.

Unforgiven gets my vote, though For a Few Dollars More is a close second.

Surprised more people haven't clamored for The Wild Bunch.

Haven't seen High Plains Drifter or Shane mentioned here.  shameful noone picked up on those absenses from the list.  classics.  Didn't see Cat Ballou either.  Lee Marvin was terrific in that one.

have to go with The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  just an amazing movie from beginning to finish that shows the ugliness of the civil war and the depths men will sink to for money.

A lot of great movies and a very tough choice..most I have watched multiple times ..it's a mini-series that many would label the best mini-series ever

Lonesome Dove
..great story, great acting, a little above Red River, Shane, the Good the Bad and Unforgiven for me..great challenge.
Days up and down they come, like rain on a conga drum, forget most, remember some, don't turn none away.   Townes Van Zandt

This list isn't complete without "The Cowboys" and "The Shootist". In fact, any list with that many names that only includes a couple of John Wayne movies is very surprising. Here are a few more that are better than about every other on that list:

The Sons of Katie Elder
The Searchers
McLintock
Rio Bravo
El Dorado
Rio Lobo
Fort Apache
Chisum
Cahill US Marshall
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

Other Non- John Wayne ones we're missing here:

Jeremiah Johnson
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Dances With Wolves
Silverado

If it was on the list "The Cowboys" would be my choice followed closely by "The Shootist".  Young Guns would be a close third even though it shouldn't probably be that far up the list. A lesser known movie that you should all check out if you haven't seen it that I have seen multiple times and is surprisingly good is "Last of the Dogmen". Great show. I liked it better than many of these on this list.

The Shootist is another that demands to be on that list. But as long as we are mentioning John Wayne films that have to be up there in greatness, how can Stagecoach(1939 version with John Wayne), possibly the most influential cowboy/western film of all-time, not even have a vote?

Django Unchained...that's mine, although I'm not sure it fits the genre.

Tarantino is a trip Waultz phenomenal.
