Boston Receives:

Nick Young 5M
Kenyon Martin 2.5-3M

Clippers Receive:

Ray Allen 6M

Why for C's?

Reportedly the C's have interest in Young and he could be a nice piece off our bench. Him and Terry would give us 2 very dangerous offensive threats off our bench. Plus, Young is 6-7 and gives us a little more flexibility by having the size and athleticism to play both the 2 and 3.

Martin gives us another big. A player that could be effective playing alongside Rondo and in our defensive rotations because of his athletic ability. Definitely not what he used to be, but a solid player nonetheless.

Why for the Clippers?

They want to add Allen, but also would like to use their MLE on Crawford. This would allow them to obtain both. They could also give Allen the 6m the C's are offering in order to sweeten the deal and provide him with both money and a starting job.

I don't think LAC have Nick Young's bird rights. I believe they lost them in the trade because he took the qualifying offer from Washington the previous off-season.

Caron Butler is the only feasible peace we could get back. They have no other SFs though so I don't see it happening.

I'd be good with Kenyon Martin coming back, if it's a short-term deal. Could also take back Ryan Gomes' expiring deal as filler to make numbers work.

K mart was yuck last year 9.2 board per 48 and TS% 45, short term deal for young is tolerable.

I don't really like Nick Young or KMart on a contender's bench. KMart's production has dropped. And Young is too inconsistent. Ray Allen is way better.

I like the S&T idea. I proposed something similar if Ray goes to LA in another thread; however, I didn't think about adding Martin. Martin isn't a character guy, but he is tough. He could be the teams enforcer and stir things up a bit.

Everybody is so down on Nick Young. But you've got to take into account he's been playing with the perennial bottom dweller Wizards and then under "coach" Vinny Del Negro.

He's exactly what we need. Young and an actual scorer who can create his own shot. He would also benefit from the actual vet presence here.

Rather have Foye back.
Martin is the same player a Sullinger only without the upside.

Per Synergy Sports, a subscription stats site

Offensive Points per Possession
-Overall
Allen 1.04 - 23rd best
Nick Young 0.97 82nd best

-Isolation
Allen  0.91 26th best
Young 0.93 22nd best

Not much difference on the isolation plays and in every other type of play Ray beats Young handily. For example, despite his great young legs Young is ranked 211th in transition compared to Ray's 118th ranking in the NBA.

Defensively, Synergy analyze who the on-ball defender is as opposed to the +/- team numbers that get tossed around here as gospel. Ray murders Young defensively:

Defensive PPP allowed
Ray Allen 0.75 49th best
Nick Young 0.92 361st

Young has nice young legs, a better than average offensive game, though inferior to Ray's, and defensively sucks.

Absolutely
When you lose, the easy part is to see who gives up. Giving up is very simple. You basically take your stuff and walk away. To continue to work and to continue to compete is one of the most difficult things, especially when you really don't have anything - KG
