OFFICIAL: Brandon Ingram, who has missed two games due to a sore right shoulder, underwent further testing yesterday which revealed a Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) in his arm.

Ingram is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Brandon Ingram has a DVT - a blood clot that forms in the leg (usually when immobile, like on a flight). A DVT can become a pulmonary embolism. That's what Chris Bosh had. It can kill you. He'll need to take a blood-thinning med for a few months. You can't play while on that med.

Yikes. Alex Kennedy talked about it in a storm of tweets explaining it, but this could end up being a serious issue, or even fatal if not treated properly. Thankfully it looks like Ingram will be fine with the treatment plan(s) outlined and I hope they take it easy on him going forward. Tough to hear.

AKA Blood clots. It sounds much worse when you use the layman's terms. Hope he gets better quick.

Hopefully it’s a one time thing and he can play again. If it’s treated an comes back, it can be a career ender.

[dang], this blows so much. I just hope he can live a healthy life, let alone return to playing basketball. You don't mess with this sort of stuff.

It really is. I hope they take their time dealing with this and don't try rushing anything at all.

That is brutal. Best wishes to him and that he can live a normal life. Very scary. Luckily they caught it now.

Terribly sorry that he has to deal with this.  Hopefully his health turns out OK in the long term.  If he’s got his head on straight he’s a 20 year old millionaire who can do amazing things with his life regardless of basketball, as long as he has his health.

That's awful. Nevermind his NBA career, I hope his health improves and the blood clots can be eliminated with the proper medication.

While I agree, his career isn’t over yet. I think Tyreke Evans had this.

It will be treated first, and heavily monitored. If there are no other issues, he will probably be cleared to play again.

It has, but I’d rather discuss the trade implications in another thread.

Luckily they caught it before the clot broke off and went to his lungs or heart. Now, they need to figure out what the cause is, because it very well could be a one time thing. But if there's an underlying issue that will require longterm treatment with blood thinners then yes, his career is over.
