76ers Acquire Avery Bradley and Boban Marjanovic from Pistons in TradeFrom
www.nba.com/sixersMonday afternoon, the 76ers agreed to trade Amir Johnson, TJ McConnell, and a 2018 first round draft pick to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Avery Bradley and Boban Marjanovic.
In the team's press conference, GM Billy Jackson said, "Avery Bradley is an all-league defender who can fit perfectly into our team as an off-ball guard that defends the point guard position as well as anybody else in the NBA. Our team has worked to build a defensive culture and we know that Avery will further embody that culture on a nightly basis."
On their newly acquired center he said, "Boban has played very well when given minutes as a backup throughout the early years of his career, but has lacked a consistent opportunity. Boban will get to play starters minutes in games that we rest Joel, which we feel will further his development, and we are excited to seeing him grow as a player."
The Sixers say goodbye to Amir Johnson, who is heading back to the team he started his career on, and TJ McConnell who has spent the first 3 seasons of his career with Philadelphia. "The guys in the locker room love TJ, especially Joel, and he will be missed. He busted his butt every day while he was here and I think he will have a place in the NBA for a long time." Jackson said.
The team also sent out an unprotected 2018 first round draft pick in the deal which have been seen as highly valuable this offseason. The #8 76ers are presently 3 games above the #9 Pistons in the East playoff standings and acquiring Bradley expects to improve the team while also hurting the Pistons. Without a lot of expected open roster spots next offseason, the team management was willing to part with one future pick from their treasure chest which includes 4 second round picks in the 2018 draft. There also seems to be a feeling that the 76ers aren't done dealing yet.
