Give me MJ, if only because I can't think of any meaningful dunks Carter actually had.  His game has historically been flash over substance, and I think his dunks are a reflection of that.

Over the last three seasons, Carter has dedicated himself to leadership and defense.  If he'd shown that commitment early in his career, he'd be known as an all-time great, rather than just as a great dunker.  Better late than never, but it's one of those "what might have been" things.

just a dunker? he is #25 all-time scorer in NBA history and pretty clutch early in his career.

He was at  UMass basketball camp in 1998 that I went to . He was putting on a dunk showcase ,it was amazing to watch that athleticism from about 10 ft away. :o

That's the day I realized I'd never be a professional athlete ha

25 years from now, if Carter is remembered, it will be because of his dunks, rather than as an all-around great player.  As good as his statistics are, he wasted a lot of potential.
Yeah I totally agree.  Carter could have been one of the alltime greats.  But I mainly remember him for being a wimpy diva when he was in his prime.  My main memories are of when he thought he was fouled and he would roll around on the court for 5 minutes at a time.  And then limp off the court because he banged his elbow.

Whew okay  ;D

To me he's probably the best.  Just so unstoppable at his size.  Made really hard dunks look easy too.

Shaq is probably the most unstoppable which gets points for me.

You really need to define best dunker before you make a list. I'd go for best "high degree of difficulty" dunker over "style points on uncontested dunks".

I agree, but that's part of what makes it so tricky -- are you talking about degrees of difficulty in the game, or in the act of the dunk itself? and so on, and so on.

Like, I remember MJ for his hangtime, Carter for how easy he made it look, Kemp for the most violent dunks of all time, etc. They're all up there.

I liked Drexler and Kersey on the Blazers, and "Dr Dunkenstein" Darryl Griffiths probably deserves an honorable mention.

Also, since I'm in way back mode, you can't ignore pre-injury Marques Johnson.

So good.  He may be my favorite dunker of all-time.  A lot of guys today - Blake Griffin is especially guilty of this - get most of their poster dunks by warding off with the off arm or even using the defender to push themselves up higher.  Julius Erving just flat out jumped over people.  The #1 on that list has to be in most unbiased Top 5 Dunks of All-Time lists.

I was just a kid at the time and was watching this game on TV without knowing who Chambers was.  That dunk was one of the most unexpected shocking plays I've ever seen.  It was awesome.

Another in the 'nique camp here.

Take me back to the days of the Wilkins v Bird shootouts, oh what a time to be a young fan!

I can still remember my excitement when we got him as an FA... I was still too young to realize he was washed up by that point  :'(

My all-time favorite non celtic

Think I may still have the card when he signed too haha!
