At least that part is true.

But yeah, should definitely be worth 25 big ones  :)

Bennett Salvatore is hands down the worst ref in the league.  The fact that he's still a ref just confirms that Stern has done absolutely nothing to improve the state of the NBA officiating.  As much as I can't stand the Lakers, Phil Jackson is absolutely right, and I wish he had made a stronger statement.

Funniest part of the whole article:

""Tonight they wouldn't let Ron play the way he played prior to [the technical foul call]," Jackson said. "[Ginobili] could hook Ron; [Artest] didn't get what was going on and ended up getting too many fouls on him."

Artest finished the game with two personal fouls, plus the technical. "

Yeah, not so much there Phil.   ::)

He is partly right though, Salvatore is a good ref while calm, but allows himself to become personally involved waaaay too often and it almost always affects his calls.  Bennett vs Phil: No matter who wins, we lose.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
The thing about Phil Jackson, and I know that someone is going to see me say this and just absolutely rip into me for it, but he talks like he is always right and everyone else is always wrong..but he does it persuasively, so you kind of believe him.

I didn't even see the game...didn't see the highlights either so maybe this is a terrible shot in the dark, but I bet Phil Jackson doesn't do this if it is november. Its all about setting tone.

Yeah, Phil's referee griping is usually calculated and always intended to affect calls going forward.  It works quite a bit too.  He's probably a little worried about the possibility of playing SA in the first round and wants to plant a seed ahead of time, which is why he didn't care that Artest only had 2 fouls - I think he's trying to get hooks called on Ginobili in the playoffs.

Salvatore will be conscious of it the first Lakers playoff game he refs, but knowing him he could go either way with it.

Artest's comments:

"I don't even remember," Artest said. "It was just basketball. I can't remember what happened."

gotta make you feel good as a Lakers fan, huh?  ;D hahahahaa
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Joey Crawford is the worst ref in the league.
