I was never a fan of his music, but I know he made a lot of people happy. I have a few relatives who are parrot-heads.

Margaritaville came out when I was in college - and as someone who was (and still is) pretty stuck in the 60’s music-wise it got my attention. The “wasting away” component was appealing to the 19 year old me - felt a little rebellious and acknowledged some of the reality of what college life was like. Eventually I found the song to be tame, still a little fun - somewhat bubble gum goofy. But he sure brought people together with it and made a career of treating his fans to hours of fun and connection. Wasn’t for me but I definitely respect it and I know the loss will be meaningful to a lot of people.

RIP to a legend. His song “I Don’t Know (Spicoli’s theme)” from the movie “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” is constantly being played in my car to amp me up, and has been the soundtrack to many great road trips. Thanks for the tunes, Jimmy.

My wife and I had one request for the band at our wedding “NO BUFFETT”…Sure enough about an hour in they break into “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and my wife and I were ticked off.  Then we looked around and saw everyone having a good time, so we shrugged and joined in the dancing.  All that matters is that is the amount of joy he brought to so many people.

By all accounts a truly kind and generous man.  RIP.

Great story - could start a thread for songs requested not to be played at weddings.  Mine was “Celebration”…

Glad that you and your wife adjusted and joined in on “Cheeseburger”.
