Or does anyone know the town of Everett well. I'd like to know the vibe of the city, the demographics etc.

I found some funny stuff on Google about it. I'll post it soon. Just want to get a feel for where Noel is from. He's Destin to be a Celtic.

mile city located just outside of Boston, while notable for its successful high school football team and location in which Dennis Lehane novels like to house potentially murderous child molesters, it is actually just offers a less expensive place to live than nearby communities of Somerville and Charlestown due to its low-scoring (academically speaking) high school. It has retained more of the rough-edged Boston character portrayed in books and movies, even as the quickly gentrified neighborhoods to the south trade Dunks for Starbucks and have renovated away the original character of the towns to cram in another million dollar condo and organic hemp milk dispensary.
As the saying goes "If you can't afford Cambridge, move to Somerville. If you can't afford Somerville, go to Everett, MA. if you can't afford Everett, go to Chelsea, MA. Can't afford Chelsea? Worcester. Can't afford Worcester? Go F--- yourself."

Everett, MA
A neighborhood that is part of Boston, MA. Home of the sickest sports teams (can you say Crimson Tide?!) and drug scene galore. It's a pretty diverse area but is slowly being taken over by stereotypical NO ENGLISH Brazilians that everyone wants to kick. The cops suck and have nothing better to do but rag on kids who just wanna skate (RIP Everett Skate Park) instead of worrying about the hundred wife-beaters and rapes going on.

There's a few main places where everybody hangs out in one time or another. Glendale Park, slowly turning into a campus, after they blew out the sledding hill to build a monster of a school. Lots of stabbings and drug deals done here. I bet you've all spent at least an hour in Walgreen's parking lot too, across from Everett House and the 983572 nail salons. Tina's will screw you over, FYI.

You'll find that most of the guys are either hardcore skaters or thugs. Or maybe skate rats and wiggers, you'll find those too. Lots of them. As for girls, you'll see all the muffin top Brazis and the orange tanned chicas with their Sidekicks in one hand and ice coffee with nineteen sugars in the other. A fraction of both genders are decent people, a pretty good amount of artistic talent around here, but not much. Lots of people from Malden and Revere come here. We're all sort of a little community, in a way.

You got food, drugs, lots of STDs, and hardly a shred of American-speaking citizens left here. Enjoy it while you can.

Lived in Everett for over 35 years. Nerlens is my son's age and went to school with him and hung with him at times when they were in middle school. Nerlens lived on the street behind my house. He was a good kid.

Lots of what you have posted tells of the problems in most inner cities but Everett isnt that bad.

BTW my family has lived in Everett since the 1930s.

To give you some perspective on Everett:

South Everett, known as The Line, is where the old Orange Line station was located before Wellington Station was built. It was one of the poorest, most run down sections in the city. Urban development has turned that main street, route 99, into a decent area for urban professionals. The new casino will be built down there just before heading into Charlestown.

The Brazilian community thrives in Everett. The are good, hard working people....blue collar. They have also turned many downtrodden businesses into success stories in Everett. Like the Irish and Italians before them, they have transformed the city into their liking. (Thought I read somewhere there are more Brazilians in Everett than any other city except one other in the US, and has the highest concentration of Brazilians than any city in the US.

The cops suck everywhere, not just Everett.

The food in Everett is outstanding. From steak houses to sub shops to pizza places to Asian cuisine, most of the restaurants in Everett are very ethnic and very good.

Everett is ridiculously proud of its HS football team. They are the Celtics of New England in that way with more Division 1 state titles than any other team in New England. The field house and locker room for the players still has pictures of a team that won the national championship while scoring 600 points in a season and letting up none.

Ive worked in Everett for the past 11 years. Outside of a few meth heads afternoon strolling around Main St, the town is practically a suburb compared to most boston areas. Im not sure how you're going to get a feel for Noel by researching Everett. Its a boring town unless you're Brazilian, Columbian, or on meth. The cops there don't have much to do other than hand out traffic violations. If he wasn't an NBA player Id probably feel sorry for him.

Noel seems like a good kid.  I am from a small nice town in MA but live in worcester which the way you are describing everett seems similar.  Noel just seems like any other kid i'd see in worcester here most days.

people like to poke fun at worcester just the same.  It depends on how you look at it.  There are issues.  There are racist people too.  I'm more in the nice nonjudgemental crowd.

Everett doesnt seem like the greatest place to live and poor and being overrun with brazilians like parts of worcester are but who cares?

worcester can be like that too.  Lots of immigrants and it's like the great depression sometimes but nice areas as well.   It's not as bad as people make it out to be.  I'd much rather be here than in the south where there is real ignorance.

walker, just curious...what part of worcester?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Everett is no picnic if you are young. Tough city.

As for Nerlens... he is from an atheltic family and was the youngest of three brothers. Jim, his oldest brother was a model kid who went to BC and played safety for the fottball team. His senior year he was a captain. Rodman, the middle aged kid, was a bit of a knucklehead and played middle linebacker for NC State. Nerlens was a good kid, maybe not the brightest, but unfortunately he surrounded himself with punks.

Saw Nerlens play in the 6th grade for his school against the teachers of the school and he dunked on his teacher. Saw him play in HS before he transferred to Tilton. After dominating in some games his freshmen year the crowd used to cheer at the opponents. "He's a freshman" clap clap ....clap clap clap. Nerlens played football too, but was only on the field to block extra points and field goals. It was kinda funny to see him go out there to block kicks being the biggest kid on the field by some 7 inches or so.

One image I will never forget is Nerlens walking alongside my son and he put his hand on my sons head and palmed it like a basketball. Kid has huge hands!!!

Tilton, New Hampshire?

Holy Lord that must have been a culture shock for the kid. Tilton, NH is about as small town NE as it gets. Typical old mill town that saw all its industry leave decades ago.

Yeah he doesn't seem like a guy who is going to be the  next Bill Russell or anything or world beater but still a halfway decent kid.  Doesn't surprise me.  I think by nba standards he's not bad or good.   Pretty typical.  Nice player.  Your description of him doesn't really surprise me. Good info but that's what he seems like.

Marcus Camby was kind of the same.  I met Marcus and knew some of those guys on the umass team because I grew up near there during that time.  My friend here in worcester went to school with Marcus in hartford.

He sounds almost identical although Camby was probably a bit better.

The thing with Nerlens is there are very few players who can do what he does as far as being active on the defensive end blocking shots and steals and creating havoc  from a talent perspective.  He is also pretty mobile and has hte ability to be a fairly well rounded player on the glass and scoring the ball.  People say he is a zero offensively.  He really isn't.  He shoots good percentages and moves around without the ball and is developing a decent shot. He contributes in a lot of ways when healthy and focused  particularly on the defensive end.

He isn't a one dimensional offensive player.  He gets a lot of points on dunks and putbacks which give him good percentages.  But he is fairly more than one dimensional than that. He is developing a decent jumpshot and moves around without the ball like Amir does. Can score on hook shots etc. Good free throw shooter.  He doesn't really have the size or bulk to be a post player and he's not that, but he's not one dimensional.

His focus is a bit of a concern.  People expecting him to be Cousins with that kind of size that's not what he is.  He is pretty versatile though.

He's not an outright headcase like Cousins either.  He more has focus and maturity issues in other ways.  Not the brightest tack in the shed like you said.  HE's not bill russell. He can pass the ball though and is a decent player.

Now Bogut is fairly one dimensional and a zero on offense at this point.   Biyombo too.  Injuries have really limited bogut as far as what he can do besides just use his size and stand under the basket.

Noel is a more well rounded mobile player. His main issues are focus and maturity and his lack of bulk.

Bogut is fairly unselfish and a decent passer though because he used to be a good offensive player and knows how to position  himself in offensive sets.  Biyombo is neither and is really just a shotblocker and rebounder on hustle and athleticism.

Bogut is more experienced.  He  is like Sabonis in ways post injuries but has completely lost his mobility.  He is more mature than Noel.   He also was never the offensive player Sabonis was.

I'd say Everett is more on par with Lowell, New Bedford and Springfield. Still gritty and tough but with a clear forward momentum. It's no Boston or Providence but it's a step above the Lawrence, Brockton's and Fall River's of the area, which are totally devoid of investment and hope and absolutely ridden with heroin.

I'm not sure about Noel. Coming to Boston could be the best thing for him, or it could be the absolute worst thing. Remember what happened to Chris Herren.

Alright.  I haven't been out there like ever.  I'm from western ma.  Both my sisters and other family has lived in boston a lot more than i have and know the towns a lot better.  She lived in east boston for a while which is near there and was really rough.   I know people from all over there but boston is so confusing north shore, south shore.  Some towns are really nice.  Some aren't.  The people all kind of seem similar though wherever you are.

I chose worcester because it was better than Springfield as far as jobs and not as expensive as Boston.  It was either this or Providence if i wanted to live in a major city.

Worcester is really not that great but it's a cake walk compared to a lot of places I would guess. Even Hartford.  I'd rather be closer to Boston and the cape where my family lives now.

I'm utilitarian that way.  I like that worcester has everything i need and is right in the middle of the state.  I do wish it was nicer sometimes.   I could move to shrewsbury but eh.. Central mass in general there are a lot of towns that are cultural deserts imo. They are lacking something western ma had and boston.  It's in between though. Worcester has some personality.  Shrewsbury I don't know. Most of the surrounding towns around here are pretty bland.

I went to school with people from brockton, southie, north boston etc. They all seemed kind of the same. Even stoughton and places like that. Newton is nicer and Waltham but again the people are all the same. Peabody or whatever.  Quincy, HIngham, Scituate, Salem. Some are nicer than others.  Even bc where that is.  Some places are nicer than others.  A good friend of mine is from Brockton.  It doesn't really matter where you are from. Lexington, Concord.  My sister lived in lexington.  More upscale and really nice but people can be ****s from there too.
