1989. And the player was none other than Magic Johnson. Pretty good company.
Not saying he's as good as floor leader. But certainly  Better defender.

I mean Ray Ray drops 31 shooting 6 for 9, from the land of three.

Kg puts up 26 points 14 boards and my favorite, 4 get those shot's outta here. Also 3 dimes.

Perkins 16 points and 10 boards .

And Pierce puts up  16 points, 5 boards, 1 assist, and 1 rejection.

I actually like it when pierce lets everybody do there thing. I look at it as pierce saving energy. And he can take over anytime he wants.

Enjoy these times Fellas. Remember Dwayne Shincis? Or Milt Palacio. I sure do.

I don't know where you got that fact. If you go to
http://www.basketball-reference.com/friv/triple_doubles.html
you can scroll through all the triple doubles between 1986 and 2007. Looking for the most recent triple double with the same or better stats as Rondo, I found Fat Lever on 4/21/89. He had 15 pts, 13 rbs and 23 assists (and 5 steals). Gotta love those run and gun Nugget teams of the 80s. He also had one of 31/16/20/6 on 1/7/88. That's ridiculous. He had 41 triple-doubles between 1986 and 1990. Lever is definitely an all-time underrated player. The guy was a 2-time all-star during 6 years of playing for those Nugget teams and also spent some time in Portland and Indiana. He was competing against Magic, Stockton, Maurice Cheeks, DJ, Isiah, Doc Rivers and Kevin Johnson. No one remembers him. If he played in today's NBA, he'd be up there will Paul, Williams and Nash.

Funny, I think it was Bill Simmons who recently compared Rondo to Fat Lever.

The bench's best player, Tony Allen, didn't play, so I'm not that concerned.... yet.  However, I do think we need another big off the bench, like PJ Brown or Joe Smith.

If Tony Allen is the best bench player, I would say that is reason to be concerned.

why?

Tony has been playing very well off the bench, particularly latley. His defense has helped the second unit immensly, and he's attacking and getting to the line very well.

It's funny, ESPN's statisticians came up with that Magic stat correctly though.  However they've been messing up the last Celtic to have a triple double.

In last night's game summary and on Sportscenter they keep saying the last one was Pierce in 2005.  The last triple double by a Celtic was really Ryan Gomes in 2006.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

He means better than each of 16/17/13. Lever's 15/23/13 is short on points.

I will have to start with the disclaimer that I have always hated TA as a player so I am a little biased.  He has improved from last season where he was not good at all (didn't move the ball, he was a walking turnover, just a disaster on offense, the horrendous Billups foul, I could keep going :)...) but this season is only a small sample so far.  He is not someone I have any faith in playing serious minutes in a big-game situation.  He's improved, but I still don't trust him...
