If Spidey-verse has proven anything, it's that animation is probably the best format for adapting comic books.
It's interesting. I love the Spidey-verse films, but I also was a big fan of Reeves' Batman. I think you can do both live action & animation very well
I don't mean live action can't capably adapt comic books, just that if you're going for the most faithful adaptation then animation is probably superior. Just on a most basic level, comics and animation both being illustrated mean they're more similar formats. If you're going live action then there are just going to be some inherent compromises, though obviously I'm not counting things that are so heavily computer-animated the "live" portion of it is minuscule.
The Kingpin in Spidey-verse 1 is a good example. He's impossibly large which adds to how menacing he seems. If you were doing that live-action, you'd have to abandon any pretense of being in a "real" world. Then it would be more like Rodriguez's Sin City which tried to stay as close as possible to the comics stylistically. If you were attempting to adapt Sin City in a more conventional way you'd be met with a lot of necessary changes that would destroy or at least modify the "feel" of the original comic. It doesn't mean that version of Sin City would be bad, it just means it wouldn't be as faithful.
