A few weeks ago I got a notice from my web site host that I needed to update my domain name server (DNS).  I made a phone call and it was taken care of.  My web site is still functioning fine, however, the only computer in the world that can not access my web site is my own.  I can't retrieve my site's email, can't get into the management page, can't even pull up the site in a browser.  It just times out, then nothin'.

I've tried cleaning out my cache.  Didn't work.  I've had numerous phone calls with my tech guy, but he's in Florida and not really sure what the deal is.

It's frustrating as hell.

Any suggestions anyone?

is your machine Windows or Linux or Mc ?

what did you do with the DNS?  What si the DNS? What is the IP?

if it is windows try this:

1) ipconfig /flushdns
2) tracert www.yoursite.com
if that doesn't resolve
3) tracert 123.343.23.22 (ip of your server)

Trying ping'ng the fully qualified domain name from your computer and a computer which can access the site. Check to see if the IPs r different. If so, then the DNS update may have also changes ur sites IP for some reason.

If the IPs from the pings are different then the old IP is still cached somewhere or it's hardcoded, e.g. /etc/hosts for *nix... or maybe your ISP/sonic wall or whatever has caching of some sort.

If the IPs are the same then try ping'ng the site's confirmed IP directly from your box. If that fails then it looks like a network issue of some sort.

It's Windows.  We had tried the flushdns too.  Maybe I typed it in wrong.  I'll  give it a whirl.  Thanks

I don't think it's your computer Redz. It appears that your nameservers have changed and no one has updated them at your registrar, Network Solutions or that an attempt to update them was either incomplete or otherwise unsuccessful. It looks like you need to get in touch with one John Barker - john.barker@vteg.com - whomever he is - and tell him to get over there, get to the bottom of things and make sure your domain name is pointing toward the right nameservers. You may already know this fellow, but here' more info on him...

  John Barker
  220 Fire Road 3
  Lancaster, MA 01523 US
  Phone: 978-840-1727

He's listed as both Administrative and Technical contact for your domain. I assume the Billing and Registrant contact would be you. At least it should be as well as the Admin contact. I didn't see you listed anywhere on the domain record though, so while you are getting the nameservers corrected, you might get yourself added to all three of those contact entries in the domain record. If you want to keep John Barker as your technical contact you can do so. If not, you can add me. Let me know I'll provide you with the info you need.

  Domain Name: CAPEDCOD.COM
  Current Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.
  Name Server (primary):   NS51.WORLDNIC.COM - 205.178.190.26
  Name Server (secondary): NS52.WORLDNIC.COM - 205.178.144.26

  IP Location: US(UNITED STATES)-TEXAS-DALLAS
  Record Type: Domain Name
  Server Type: Apache 2

Here's where the problem may be...

  IP Address: 209.62.20.212
(ARIN & RIPE IP search)

That is the IP address for capedcod.com. This is where that IP addy resolves...

So your registrar has capedcod.com on one set of nameservers, but the site itself is on another set (with different IP addresses). This would probably explain why your email is no longer working and why you can't access your cPanel/management page. Unless your email service/accounts were transferred, they would need to be set back up from scratch. Same for the management page. As for the site itself, that may be a cache/cookies thing on your end or it may be a network issue since the domain record doesn't seem to match the facts.

Let me know if I can help.

Thanks Bob.  I'll forward that to the guy who hosts ny web site (of course someone other than the guy who does the domain stuff...long story, but a factor in the confusion...another factor being that I don't know what the hell most of this stuff means)

Redz, there is another possibility here that you can ask your guys about and that is in a scenario whereby the nameservers themselves need their info updated with whomever they are registered with. That happens on occasion for a variety of reasons. If that is the case then everything on those machines would be experiencing issues similar to yours. In that situation, the nameservers have to be straightened out first, then the client accounts.
