Recently it has been driving me nuts. It's overused now for the dumbest things. It was good at first, but I think it's peaked in terms of its usefulness.

Hilarious.

A semantics thread with a poll in which "genius" is spelled "genious."

Irony is a wonderful thing.

 ;D
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Totally ... I'm still splitting a side, lol! Truth is truly stranger than fiction, and irony is funnier than intent! (There is no "eye" in irony ... it is what it is).

That said, I really have no problem with it ... every decade has it's catch-phrases, and this is just another way of saying "that's the way it goes", "c'est la vie", "come see, come sah", "que sera, sera" and so on. Like any other catch-phrase of it's time, it is what it is ... like it or not.

I have absolutely no problem with it, to me it is a way of nodding to the old saying, "Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer." If you ask a guy like Greg Popovich how it feels to lose and not be able to repeat again, and he says, "It is what it is," You deserve the response you are given.

I think this summed it up nicely. It is a worn out cliche to answer dumb questions. It's amazing how dumb questions to players and coaches can be.

Speaking of the Spurs and "what is," Tim Duncan popped one in there during his postgame spiel tonight.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=genious

So for all the people who think "it is what it is" is "genious", are they actually making a statement as to how useless THE PHRASE is, or are they making a statement as to how retarded THE PEOPLE who think it's "genius" are, or are they making a statement as to how retarded THEY are?

The Bard, Bill Shakespeare, said it best:

"Much ado about nothing."

This is the internet.  Ultimately, everything here can be painted with that brush.
