Title: IF Lebron Came Here For A Meeting, How Would You React That Day?
Post by: Phantom255x on June 11, 2018, 05:00:37 PM
Just curious.

It's obviously unlikely he even comes here (we ALL know that), but in past years when we were having FA meetings with players like Durant, Horford, Hayward, etc. this blog had a ton of excitement the days leading up to the meeting and during the day. Lots of updates, checking Twitter, hoping for good things to happen and come out of it.

If Lebron went on a big FA tour and that included Boston for a day (or few hours), how would you feel about it. Same kind of excitement/curiosity or would you just puke and not even bother thinking about it that day (hoping nothing good comes out of it)?

I wouldn’t invest much emotionally , because I think chances are slim of it happening.

If I see a Woj report about negotiations between the Cavs and Celts, though, I will be all in.

Yeah. I might be in the minority but if they do schedule a meeting of sorts, I'd be real intrigued. That said, I also HATE the idea of having to give up one of Kyrie/Hayward/Horford in some S&T or salary-dump kind move to fit him in.

Oh if only Lebron could be willing to sign here for MLE and then sign endorsement deals to make up for the max  :P

Otherwise I'm perfectly fine bringing back this team + Smart and Baynes hopefully. IF there's the slim chance Kawhi is on the trade block, I'd entertain it but I think he stays in San Antonio.

Really depends on what they have to give up...

I do not want to see Hayward sent out, nor Kyrie.

Prefer it would be Al.

But no way he comes to Boston IMO

Wonder if taking him to Fenway that day would be a good idea?

Hopefully they're on the road that week! :)

Yeah I agree. I was just curious to see how people here would react IF we had a meeting with him sometime early July. I'm sure there'd be a lot of mixed emotions/feelings about that from the entire fanbase and city  :P

Well, last year, they also took Hayward to the site where the new Auerbach Center Practice Facility was being made (in construction at the time) and they met up with Jaylen there too. The facility is set to open June 19th, so they could hypothetically take him there (and Fenway)  :P

Lebron will not call 1st to set up a meeting

He has spread this rumor funnelling down to Stephen A Smith, so that the list of teams will come tap his shoulders

Just the the Celtics and Warriors on the list were unexpected

The Warriors are not going to tap Lebrons shoulders

Celtics i doubt will. But who knows with Mr Sly, Danny Ainge

Maybe his angle is....  Kyrie you don't want to commit?   Well the Celtics can explore also

Ainge to Irving: I'm not giving you special privileges so that you will stay long term , mentality

If James opts into his deal before the 1st, then that opens up the door to a lot of teams. If he opts out, then it is really only the Lakers and Philly, most likely the Lakers

Every team has to listen if James comes calling. I like the guy. He's still the best player, no doubt. But his dominant years are probably behind him, and you have to be careful about changing your team too radically to accommodate him. That's why the safest bet is he listens to his family and stays in Cleveland.

Can someone explain to me how LAL can add George, Lebron... AND CP3?

I've seen folks suggest it but frankly I'd be shocked if they can add all three and keep even 2 of Ingram/Ball/Kuzma. The idea is that they move Deng's contract in some way to fit them all in, but for that to happen they'd probably have to put one of the trio into a trade package, or even two of the trio.

And then you already assume Randle, IT and a few others are likely gone.

He stays in Cleveland it will be for the money and to play out the rest of his years there. He will not win the East again and will not beat the Celtics, Pacers or Sixers.

That roster is putrid. LA makes the most sense because his family lives there in the summer and James produces several TV shows. Still can win there and can add other max players and basically can run that team on and off the floor

If LeBron comes here, Kevin Love needs to come here too (according to him, "I want to play with LeBron for the rest of my career). Dang follower lol.

That means gutting a few of our players that already makes this roster a contender.

So no, I hope LeBron goes to the Lakers. I have a bunch of friends who are Lakers fans and I'd love to see their reaction to him there because some of them also hate LBJ and are diehard Kobe fans lol.

if he wants a real shot at knocking off the dubs he comes to Boston or Houston.  if money is not a factor.  yeah i know. but boston and houston are the next best teams behind the dubs.

I love to hate Lebron too much to ever cheer for him. His arrogance is annoying, and his free agency antics have changed the complexion of present day free agency in the NBA for the worst.

I would much rather beat him at his own game with our team which was built the right way.....solid drafting, free agency, and fleecing inferior GM’s.

Ball would be a terrible fit next to LeBron. And would LeBron want to deal with Lavar?

If he goes to LA (my guess would be with CP3), Ball probably gets moved for a veteran big.

I feel like folks who think they can simply deal Ball and/or Deng in a trade somewhere are going to get hit with reality when they realize no one wants them at all. You kind of have to move Kuzma or Ingram in a package if you want to get rid of Deng's contract since LAL has no high picks coming up (and I highly doubt the other team wants Ball and his drama as "added compensation" either).

Also LAL with CP3 and Lebron still ain't beating Warriors out West, or even the Spurs if Leonard stays put and is healthy.

I agree that they would need to add more (such as Ingram/Kuzma/picks) to Ball and/or Deng to get someone good, they should.

I don’t think Ball is such a distraction. He doesn’t bring drama himself, it’s his father and a team can very reel him in if they have to. If a package can bring someone legit and they get solid vet-min guys, they could challenge GSW. Maybe it’s not CP3 but PG13, but then trade for someone like Lowry. Don’t see him going to LA to play with Ball.

LeBron would agree to LA with the understanding a third star gets brought in at any cost.

Lebron to the Lakers. That is my confident prediction. Not all about the team. More about life after hoops, his kid is rumored to be enrolled in Sierra Cannon prep school. Has a home there already and the Lakers will give him complete control of that team. Ball domination for him.

When Lebron says he has no idea where yet, he is full of crap.

I will absolutely be excited if Lebron came to Boston for a meeting. However, like I previously mentioned in another thread, I don’t even want the meeting to happen if Kyrie doesn’t approve.

I can’t see how Danny trades one of their 3 max guys to make a sign and trade work. Al seems too much of an integral part of the team, and big men like him are rare. Trading Hayward would be on another level of being cold hearted, even for Danny. Something like that would not only alarm other free agents, but the Celtics fans, and the locker room. I also don’t think Danny will trade an in his prime elite player like Kyrie. A lot had to fall in place to get Kyrie to Boston, and I don’t see Danny giving him away for any 33 year old player.

For the past week or so, I have read how Durant and Draymond Green have sacrificed financially to be a part of the Warriors team, just so they can keep the team together to win titles. With LeBron already worth over $440 million, does he think about taking less money to join a team in a ready to win now mode, who also has a good coaching staff, a solid front office, and a stable ownership group? Will he be willing to take the MLE, or do a sign and trade for a reduced rate? For instance, could he sign for around $10 million per year, in a sign and trade that includes Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier? In this scenario, Danny would retain the MLE to possibly keep Baynes.

LOL. If LeBron thinks JR Smith is brain dead at times, then why would he want to play with James Harden? Harden literally flat lines when the pressure rises in the playoffs.

BTW, I didn't say Danny should offer LeBron the MLE. I asked if LeBron would think about it from his perspective, so that his new team would stay intact and remain championship caliber. After all, if LeBron just wants to win titles at this point, then some sacrifices need to be made, and money may have to be LeBron's. I'm not delusional to think LeBron would accept the MLE, so it may be more of a question of does LeBron want cake (titles) and eat it too (max salary).

You can't compare JR Smith to Harden, despite their lack of mental aptitude under heavy pressure/adversity. Harden is a MVP type of player. Putting him with LeBron/CP3 just make it that much easier for him to either catch and shoot on 3's, or create plenty of space without any double teams on iso.
