If he's only "solidly healed" now, he won't be ready until Christmas. And even then he may still get injured within a couple of games because that's what he does. Sign someone who is not made of pressed sugar please.
This is not the one and only move. Why not take the chance? If he gets injured then we replace him with someone else. What's the big deal? If there was someone else out there that was so much better then why haven't we or someone else scooped him up?
Because capable NBA bigs will be just sitting there midseason pining to play for someone at the vet minimum?
Yeah, usually. Bogut was one of those himself after Dallas bought him out last season (and before he reinjured himself yet again). Midseason buyouts usually yield a couple of capable players who can be signed on the cheap by contenders.
