What do you do for a living? In retrospect would you have chosen something different and why/why not?

Me? I'm a curious full time student.

Retired high school math teacher.  I wanted to be a teacher from the time I could sit my dolls in a row and play school.  I never wanted to be anything else.  But, now I am a stay at home mom and grandma and full time Celtics fanatic, that is very rewarding as well.

Great thread!

I'm an executive recruiter/headhunter.

Funny how I came about it...I couldn't decide on a career path so I thought I'd aid others with their careers. Funny how it all works out in the end.

No chance I'd choose something different, but if any of you are looking for new opportunities, I work all across North America, so feel free to send me a PM.

In keeping with Dark Lord, I am a bounty hunter who used to work for the Empire colony on Coruscant as a mercenary, but got tired of the constraints of the city, and am now an independent bounty hunter based on the water planet Kamino.

Back to the real world: I am a musician/songwriter, a physician, and an internet business owner. I am also a pharmacist and gemologist, but do not work in those fields now. I also only practice medicine now on a very limited basis, as my business requires most of my time, and supports me sufficiently. If I had my priorities straight, (so I'm told by my musician friends), I'd just play and write music, but am unfortunately dependent on a steady income, (a concept they have trouble grasping), and the comforts and conveniences that it provides. (Man, I hate to admit that!) Forgive me, Mom!

Oh ... if I could do it over I'd be an astrophysicist, (or try, anyway .... that may be a bit optimistic of my abilities), as that's truly what fascinates me most, though my one true love is, and always shall be, music.

My advice to those of our younger members just "starting out" in adult life: Don't base your career decisions on what others expect of you, or what you feel will make others happy ... base them on what makes you truly happy and fulfilled ... anything else is a compromise, and while it's sometimes unavoidable, it always a struggle. Struggling is part of life anyway, try and find a career that you don't think of as work, that fills your heart and keeps you appreciating life.

If you consider your career as a "pain", you probably should be doing something else. All I ever wanted was music, and yet my road diverged many times for the sake and expectations of others ... don't fall into that trap, it rarely ends with happiness, and often insures resentment. God bless you on your journey ... it's the trip itself that's most important!

If I could go back, I'd have interned for the Celts when it was offered, but I didn't think that I could afford an unpaid internship.
