Hey guys, so I didn't see a thread like this on here, so thought I'd create it.
I figure it would also be a bit more organized to just post all the rumors, signings, trades on here as well for the next few months as there is expected to be quite a bit of movement and buyouts (possibly with a lot of surprising names involved)
It's also a little easier since it seems teams like the Cavaliers are after EVERYBODY (seriously, we've heard George Hill, DeAndre Jordan, Lou Williams, Kemba Walker all within a day), so there will be a ton of different rumors.
Anyways, my realistic hope for the Celtics is that Greg Monroe or Tyson Chandler gets bought out by Phoenix, and that the Celtics sign either using DPE (I would love to have either). Gives us good front court depth and some postseason experience as well (especially with Chandler). And frankly, we may need either to help this front court which does still tend to struggle against teams with ferocious bigs (as we've seen the last few games).
My ideal hope is either Tyreke Evans or Lou Williams, but I doubt they can trade for either b/c of lack of "rental assets" like 2nd rounders and such, and because I don't think the Clippers sell to be honest (they still have aspirations of making the playoffs and possibly making a run with Griffin, Beverley, Jordan, Lou, etc.).
Personally, I wouldn't even mind just cutting Nader for another open roster spot, but Ainge won't do that lol.
As for the Cavaliers, I think they are kind of doomed IF the Pelicans and Clippers decide not to sell, because the ONLY moves that can thread the needle for them is EITHER trading for Cousins, OR trading for a Jordan + Lou Williams package from LAC. But Pelicans and Clippers are currently in the playoff picture and are just 1.5 games removed from being a 5 seed in the West.
Anyways, should be a busy trade season and buyout market. It may be a bit boring for us Celtics fans as usually we hear star names in trade rumors coming to Boston, but that's likely not the case for us, but hey, we still have the DPE to use in a trade or buyout signing (for hopefully a good player)!

First trade of the day!
Bulls trade Jameer Nelson to Pistons for Willie Reed

Cleveland and Lakers in serious talks, not sure about who. Clarkson?

Woj says Cavaliers and Lakers are serious on a trade and could be close.
Could CLE get Clarkson, Nance & Randle while Lakers get salary (2 bad contracts?), and Cavaliers Own 2018 First Rounder.

TP for posting that just ahead of me haha.
Yeah read what I said below. Could they do that?

This looks like a "let's get some youth and dump some salary because Lebron is gone" trade

Idk, Clarkson and Randle are pretty solid, so is Nance.
Doesn't thread the needle but could help them get out of the East at least. IMO.
Or am I overrating these guys?

Not good. If the Raptors somehow get DJ for JV and a prospect ... Not good.

Really...Bulls win that trade, easily. W. Reed is a decent young big. Jameer will probably retire, no?

Yeah, I could see an LA trade involving IT. I’ve always said that’d be a good landing spot for him, though surely that’d mean no Lebron in the summer.

Pretty sure IT and Frye are going to LA

Clarkson and Nance to Cleveland, not sure for who though.
Helps their bench scoring, which they don’t really need, and does nothing for their defense lol

So hey about that IT video tribute on Sunday....

Yes. IT mentioned not wanting to get traded again and that he like being on the Cavs since they had a chance at the championship. Lakers could shutdown IT for the season.
-
WOW. Isaiah, Frye and CLE 1st going OUT. :o
Crazy. Good for IT, though!
This is a decent move for Cleveland that gets them younger while still allowing them to somewhat compete this year. Still doesn’t really help their terrible D, but they get younger and more athletic, which is good. I still don’t think this gets them past Boston or Toronto, though.
-
Best thing about this is that unless they somehow get another first round pick, Cleveland can’t trade the Brooklyn pick now, which means this is probably the team they’re ending the season with.
Anyone really think Clarkson and Nance are going to turn Cleveland into a team that can beat both Boston and Toronto to come out of the East? I don’t think so.
-
This LA-Cav trade, to me, seems like, from the Cavs end, a move to clean up the dissention in the locker room(in other words get rid of IT who might have been a bit of a cancer there) and a move to get younger for when Lebron leaves. Getting two really young players with zero playoff experience, doesn't sound like a move to get the Cavs over the hump and into the Finals.

Wait really??? ;D :o
(Sighs large breath of relief)
I thought now they could dangle it for Kemba or Jordan, but I guess not unless it's a 3-team deal (doubtful one happens though).
-
Now I really want us to nab Tyreke Evans.
Come on Danny, make it happen (somehow)!

I don't think it will happen but they could do a pick swap with the Nets pick.
I do think it will help (not a lot) the Cavs chances in the East. Getting rid of all the IT drama is a plus by itself. Clarkson and Nance are pretty good bench players and they have been playing decent defense this season.

Yes really. NBA wants teams to keep their 1st round picks at least every other year.

@SeanGrandePBP
I don’t want to start trouble, but I’m going to suggest Isaiah does not get a video in Cleveland.

Hope Crowder finds a way out of there too.
Lue has NO CLUE (no rhyme intended) how to use him.

According to reports, Knicks got a 1.5M trade exception from Hernangomez trade and have inquired about Yabusele :o

Woah. Hood and Hill to Cleveland now?
Man, with these moves now in tow I actually like what Cleveland is doing. They’re getting a bit better now while getting significantly younger and more athletic.
However, I still don’t see these moves making too terribly much of a difference this year. That’s A LOT of change to adjust to, and they’re really just adding more depth, which isn’t exactly what they needed.
-
I have lost my appetite for the remainder of today. [dang], the Cavs dumped their crap and got back much better parts for one last Lebron run. How on Earth they fleeced everyone is beyond me.
I find it hard to think they are worse today then yesterday when looking at the subtractions and additions.
-
Wade traded back to Miami for a protected 2nd rounder. WOW. :o
-
Dwayne wade to miami
-
I honestly think Cleveland just thought "we've got a bad collection of dudes. we just need a different collection of dudes and take our chances with that."
-
Cleveland's going scorched earth out here...

My guess is that the Cavs will be better simply because the guys they sent out had more or less given up on the year. There was no effort on defense, at all. If the new, younger guys do nothing more than show up and give effort the Cavs will be better. That they're younger, and have some solid NBA skills, is a second plus.

Yeah, this trade is not good for us. I thought the first was a good long-term solution, but they just got better for the playoffs this year too. It's a lot of adjustment, but Hill and Hood are guys capable of quickly fitting in. Not good.
-
Now Wade to the Heat? Man, management just gave Cleveland an enema.
From a longer-term perspective, I really like these moves for Cleveland. But this year? How do you expect to turn virtually your whole team over with 40% of the season to go (and Love out until late March) and expect to succeed in the playoffs? That’s just not going to work.
This seems very, very similar to OKC’s moves before KD left them.
-
Wade went back to Miami for a second-rounder?!

If I am a Cavs fan I like these trades a lot. If Lebron jumps ship, then they still get a decent core of young players to build from.
I agree about not knowing how well this will work for this year. That is a LOT of new players to incorporate into your team with less than 30 games until the playoffs. Plus I am not sold on Lue as a coach, I doubt he will get the most out of these changes.
-
Biggest obstacle here will be, can Lue figure out the lineups and rotations.
-
Reportedly, Wade asked to be traded:
@OrtizDYST: Sources: Dwyane Wade requested to be traded by Cleveland last night. Similar feeling to Kyrie Irving on LeBron leaving. Also wanted more minutes.
-
Joe Johnson could be a potential buyout candidate after being traded to Sacramento.
Shouldn't Ainge target him if that's the case?? #BringBigJoeBackToBoston
-
I honestly think Cleveland just thought "we've got a bad collection of dudes. we just need a different collection of dudes and take our chances with that."
Pretty much this. They got significantly younger and more athletic, but with as many young guys as they just got with little to no playoffs experience, I just don’t see this working this year. Now you have four guys who have to adjust playing to Lebron, three of which who played quite a bit with the ball usually in their hands.
Not sure if it will keep Lebron there this summer, but they’re much better suited for the next couple of years at least now.
-
The Cavs will NOT be able to keep Hood without a HUGE tax penalty. Enjoy him for a FEW MONTHS Cleveland, because that is likely ALL you will see of him in Cleveland!!!

wow, the whole team was just vaporized....laffing
-
Dump 6 players...bring in 4 players, 2 without playoff experience...have a star out until March. That's going to take an awful lot to blend quickly enough to make a difference to get out of the East. If anyone can do it Lebron can because, obviously, Lue would never be able to.

He has been playing decently off the bench avg. 7.3 ppg in only 21 min. However, he has been really bad at shooting from the 3 point line only making 27% of the shots he takes from there.

I get the Lakers trade, they dumped a bunch of salary and SAC is dumping salary to an extent in giving up Hill, but Rodney Hood is cheap and expiring. Why does Utah want Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose?

Doesn't really matter what his pp36 is. It's an empty stat category if you ask me. Sure his defense is suspect but he will provide leadership and some scoring off the bench which our current 2nd unit has been struggling with.
-
WOW
Utah wanted Crowder if folks remember that Hayward to Celts trade possibility
now Utah gets him lol
When you think the Cavs have nothing or very little to make trades .... their GM is good
using a crappy 2018 miami 2nd (for a dinosaur like Wade) and flipping that for Hill??\

Cavs are desparate yet made significant moves to update their roster without giving up the 2018 nets first
Their future even without Lebron next season, looks brighter

Timberwolves interested in Rose:
@TheSteinLine: The Timberwolves will try to sign Derrick Rose if he clears waivers after his looming release by Utah, according to league sources
Thibodeau going after another ex-player.
-
Rose is getting released:
@ShamsCharania: Utah will likely release former NBA MVP Derrick Rose, league sources tell Yahoo.
Could the Celtics find a use for him off the bench as an offensive spark? Can he still even provide that?
no. He is done. he will prob take a much longer personal leave this time....
he won't be back in the NBA imo
China?
Doubt it.

Grizzlies now may have raised the price on Danny
Watch Danny make a deal for a has been bum instead of Evans
Cavs lineup - I dont like the look of this :(
Thompson
Love
Lebron
Smith
Clarkson
Nance Jr.
Hood
Hill
Hill will start over Clarkson and Hood probably does over Smith.
add Jeff Green

I think Magic will sit down with IT and work something out. It’s better for both sides.
-
Does adding Tyreke Evans now even matter that much?
On paper CLE got a lot better and also younger (better defense too)
On paper. But turning over 1/3 of your roster and 4 players in you rotation means it could take a long time to adjust. Also, Clarkson, Hood and Nance provide very little playoff experience.
Still think a healthy Celtics and Raptors team have great chance at winning the East.
-

he would be a very good fit for swing minutes off the bench

Boston adding Monroe and they have the wildcard of all wildcards in Hayward...something just feels like he is going to be back by late March or april

Yeah and it depends on if Lue can even make it work and figure out the rotations and such (not easy).

Repeat that part "if Lue can even make it work" lol....But me, I am not super high on Lue as a coach. I like him even less as a coach that is required to retool his entire roster on the fly (with 30 games left), while not having your 2nd best player (Love) while trying to make up a 7 game head start by Toronto and Boston.

No, I mean convince him to stay and be happy in LA for the remainder of the season.
-
Cavs can start:
Hill
Smith
LeBron
Love (when back)
Thompson
That is only one new starter added to the long time core, and Hill is a reliable veteran so I don't see that as a big issue.
The bench will be Clarkson, Hood, Green, and Nance. Lots of versatility. They are going to be a very tough out in the playoffs, other than for GSW.

Oh, I completely misunderstood your comment. My bad. So IT and Ball as their backcourt? It just doesn't seem like a good combo. IT needs the ball in his hands, Ball is a terrible shooter, so he can't space the floor well for IT. Good luck Magic Johnson.
-
Some smaller trades:
Chicago sends Jameer Nelson to Detroit for Willie Reed
Memphis sends James Ennis to Detroit for Bryce Johnson
Miami sends O5karo White to Atlanta for Luke Babbitt
Portland dumps Noah Vonleh to Chicgo for rights to Milocan Rakovic
Kings send Milachi Richardson to Toronto for Bruno Cabacolo
-
TRADE
Denver Nuggets receive: Devin Harris, 2nd round pick (from New York)
New York Knicks receive: Emmanuel Mudiay
Dallas Mavericks receive: Doug McDermott, 2nd round pick (from Denver)
-
If we don't get Evans, and it sounds likely that is the case as we know Danny don't do Buckling, do we give Monroe the full exception in case he wows us and then we can resign him in offseason for a fair contract for him? If it is 5M, we are pretty much waiving him goodbye after this season. Or, was the exact amount agreed to already and this hypothetical is a moot point anyway.

Smart can’t shoot either, and the Celtics figured out how to make it work with both of them on offense. I think the Lakers can do the same. Ball can start the possession and try to make something happen in transition/early in the shot clock when he is best at making things haopen, and IT can take over the offense later in the shot clock when he needs to create for himself. As far as starting PGs go, last year IT wasn’t terribly ball-dominant, and it certainly didn’t hurt his effectivess any.
Defense will always be the problem with IT, but on offense, I really do think Ball and IT could play to each other’s strengths.

Yep, Danny Dont Do Caving and we will look for deals on the buyout market.
-
Well that was bad!!! Nothing...wanted bellinelli or evans..hope that 29th pick was worth holding on to..😝..be a euro player that will never play here
-
Hooray! Rather than get a potential difference-maker off the bench in a wide-open East we get to pick 28th in the draft OR have a potential asset for an Anthony Davis trade that we all know will NEVER happen... I’m annoyed by Ainge’s stinginess...
-
So who do they get via buyout

And on the other side of this, what the hell is Wallace thinking turning down Yabusele and two seconds for Evans and insisting upon a first in this market, especially after sitting him out for five games waiting on a trade? Memphis fans are ticked lol

Joe Johnson, IT (i doubt he is returning even if he is bought out, I don't see him starting alongside Kyrie nor would he accept coming off the bench)
anyone else?

It's not Danny's fault. For whatever reason, picks are really really valuable right now. Legit players, quality rotation guys with potential are getting flipped for second rounders.
The value of that 28th pick isn't the player we would draft with it, necessarily. It's the player we could trade it for in June. And given the way the market is going, that could be someone pretty good.
And if not, we draft in the most cost-controlled position in the draft.
-

And watch Yabs become a star for us! Holding onto a player that is going to leave for nothing is not always the best move when you are not fighting for a playoff spot. They didn't get the Don't Play Poker With Danny Memo....
No GM thought a few month rental is worth a first, not a single one.

Joe Johnson will sign with Houston is my guess

Monroe the end

This is the correct side of your post. If the Celtics hadn’t gotten Monroe, I could have seen them trading a 1st for Evans using the DPE. It still would have been an overpay. But to trade a 1st round rookie on top of another 1st? That wasn’t going to happen.
-
So how about Joe Johnson?

If he’s waived by the Lakers he can be signed by us this season. Which would be amazing and no one would ever trade with Danny Ainge again. Although I think Brad should make the first phone call to recruit him if he becomes available.
-

Well, honestly, the first post was before the Yabu/two seconds report came out, which makes it a bit more understandable. Previously the rumor going around was some combo of Semi, Nader, and Larkin. Losing both Yabu and the 1st is a tougher sell. I probably would’ve went for it given the context of this season, but can’t really blame Danny for not wanting to give that up for a rental.
But, yeah, this is going to look pretty bad for Memphis when Tyreke doesn’t re-sign and Only hurts their tank by winning games for them.

Thank God we kept Smart.

Can you imagine how much better our bench would be and how much hate him and Kyrie would have vs. The Cavs in a playoff matchup-lol- I know there is a one in a million chance this would ever come to life, but hey, there is a chance. I would love nothing more then to see IT come back to Boston but I know that is as likely as winning the PowerBall.
-
It won't happen...but IT coming back to Boston would be the best thing for him and for Boston. Come off the bench...knows the system and he loves Brad.
I think he would consider it
-
So the Cavs made a bunch of moves that didn't do anything to make them better than us or the Warriors and the talking heads at ESPN are acting like they just put Bird, Magic, and MJ in a time machine and brought them back. LOL.
-
I love the fact we held onto Smart as well. Toughness is needed in the playoffs and that man has that in spades.
-

IT wants that money. So he needs to start and average as many PPG as he can. IT is not looking for revenge or titles. He wants to get paid. Then he'll worry about winning.

I would rather trade Yabu than the DPE. He’s deadweight, carrying the same 1st Round pedigree that Sully did.

How do you figure that?
Why would the Celtics be in the market (and give up SIGNIFICANT value in Smart) for a better 1st round pick, when they wouldn't even include their own crappy 1st rounder in a trade for Evans?
It doesn't even seem like Smart's going to command much as a FA, so I can't see why we needed to dump him. Much rather sign him to a low-risk contract and see if he blows up like Bradley, while dangling the soon to be FA Rozier in trades as a team's new starting PG.

Sometimes it's better to have a very high 2nd than a very low 1st. That said, where Marcus's value is at right now and with teams' limited $ this offseason, I'm glad we kept him. But if we don't trade our 1st later, I'll likely be annoyed we didn't get Tyreke.

Ah, I see. I hope he didn't get banned. He said some pretty rude or hurtful things to me, and some other members on the forum. But still, I wouldn't want someone to get kicked out because they had a bad day.
If Isaiah got bought out, and he came to the Celtics, I think I might legit cry myself to sleep and die happy. (Which would probably never happen, since we can only sign vet min.)
-
I think the reason Smart was available for a 1st was so if we got it we'd flip our own 1st for Tyreke, effectively trading Smart for Tyreke and a move up in the draft. I can see that logic appealing to Danny a lot.

You say younger as if it makes him more athletic or something. These 2 are a wash and that's not a testament to Marco considering JJ been toast for at least a season. I'll pass on both.
