The Utah Jazz are finalizing a trade to send C Kelly Olynyk and guard Ochai Agbaji to the Toronto Raptors for Kira Lewis, Otto Porter and a 2024 first-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

I am ok with that. No contenders got him.

I wonder what the protections on that pick will be.

Trading a first rounder for KO seems weird to me for a rebuilding team.

Yeah, that's pretty wild

So, do we start a new thread for each trade or are they supposed to go under the Trade Deadline discussion?

I don’t get this trade.  Obviously Toronto wants KO’s Bird rights, but was he really going to get more than the MLE they could have offered?

The first-round pick will be the least favorable of OKC/Clippers/Rockets/Jazz in 2024, sources tell ESPN.

In general, "big" trades should get their own thread.

Ainge has collected a couple picks in the 28-33 range so far, and also looks to be giving himself a chance to preserve the Jazz’ own pick this year by dropping down in the standings.

I suspect they wanted first dibs on him. I'm guessing they like his shooting next to Barnes a bit more than Poetl's. I wonder if they have a Poetl trade lined up.

I hope that's not their rationale.  KO is almost 33.  Trading him to start him next to Barnes seems short-sighted.

Why are Toronto giving up a first for Olynyk?

I understand a contender giving up a first. Why does a team that sucks give up a first? That is clearly rebuilding.

I do love Olynyk for Toronto. They have no backup center behind Poeltl which has been even worse of late because Poeltl was injured so they had no center period.

Olynyk will be a major improvement to their bench.

--------------------------------

G: Quickley, Schroder
G: G Trent Jr, Bruce Brown
F: RJ Barrett, Jaden McDaniels
F: S Barnes, Boucher
C: Poeltl, Olynyk

Others: Agbaji, Nwora, Gradey Dick, Thad Young, Jordan Porter

That is a team should be play at least .500 the rest of the way.
