I just watched this on HBO, wondering who here has seen it. I thought it was really good and it gives good perspective on their relationship and on who they were.

I have to say, I spent the last half hour of the show crying like a manly man.

I saw it a couple days ago and thought it was really good.  I read the book, "When the Game was Ours" by Bird, Johnson and Jackie McMullen that it was based on, and that was terrific! (I always seem to like the book better.) The book had anecdotes in it in thier own words that I hadn't heard, and I lived through that era as a rabid fan, as well as reading everything I could get my hands on,  :D

PS  Larry needs a new barber!  It was good to hear the deadly rivals talk about their friendship.  Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain had a similar relationship...I am still waiting for that movie...

  • You know my methods, Watson.
I watched it with my wife...  i thought it was one of the best documentary type of things done for a pair of athletes.  as a die hard fan, much of their stories i already knew.  but to hear them look back at their rivalry / relationship (as older me) that was special to see.  my wife, who really can't stand stuff like this, was actually crying a little bit when watching it and said she enjoyed it...

i thought it was funny when larry called magic a "con man" when relating the story of the commercial and his mom's like of magic...

Yeah, I loved the "con man" comment. The portion that got to me, was when Magic was retelling when Bird called him to see how he was doing after he tested positive for HIV.

But man, Bird really is a unique specimen.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
it's on HBO on Demand

I watched it with my parents (they have HBO), my mom cried. I was very pleased with the show.

I mean the documentary, not my mom crying.

The other portion that I liked was when Gumble (who I dislike) was talking about how he hated when people mention Jordan as NBA's savior, when it was Bird and Magic.

Also let me say, I own the Larry Bird fluff documentary, and I think the Magic/Bird special showed me a lot more about the man.

I mean really just a guy of no words. I know the usual way to say it is few words...but really, no words at all.
