Kyrie Irving has been confiding in those close to him that he wants to leave Cleveland, according to Chad Ford of ESPN.com, who reveals the news amid a chat with readers. The pressure’s on Chris Grant, as nearly every other NBA decision-maker believes the Cleveland GM will be out of a job this summer if the team can’t reverse its fortunes this season, Ford writes.

Interesting... He could sign the extension, and not take the max contract offered, and opt out after 2015. That would definitely make some waves, or he could demand the trade. Either way this is good for him... Cleveland sucks. I'm sorry, but that franchise didn't do jack squat to help Lebron.

And guess what? Lebron has 3 rings, and is living it up in a better place. As Joakim Noah once said,

James has 2 titles. Let's not give him an extra one.

Definitely something to keep an eye on.

As much as the Celtics currently have their woes, I sure as heck wouldn't want to trade places with Cleveland right now.

So many question marks with that team & organization.  The long term forecast certainly doesn't look rosy.

Dang it, just lost a long post.

In short:  Chris Grant is talented at acquiring draft picks and at trading.  He stinks in regards to building a roster, drafting talent, and hiring coaches.

That team desperately needs some veterans.  Varejao and Deng are the only respected guys on that roster who have proven themselves in the NBA.

Phew. Read the original and thought I was taking crazy pills for a second. Glad you cleared it up before I had to.

He's lazy on D and in transition that makes his wanting to leave ring hollow to me. He's a large part of the problem, for all the awesomeness of his crossover, isos, and shooting he's not playing winning basketball himself.

He was an all-star too soon, before he deserved it. I do think he Cleveland was winning he'd be happy there, but a large part of that is on him.
From the DKC thread, sums up my thoughts on this.

Anyways the other issue is that I doubt Kyrie plays for the QO. So he's going to be stuck in Cleveland for a while.

Cleveland are still in a pretty good position to keep Kyrie Irving. They shouldn't panic themselves into making a bunch of win-now moves.

That would be the worst thing they could do.

Stay bad. Get another good draft pick. Use their cap space well in the summer. Maybe look to trade T.Thompson and/or D.Waiters at that point. But for now - sit still and be patient.

Don't throw youth/picks for mediocre veterans like so many impatient teams do when their star starts throwing hissy fits.

+1

They need to keep the long term in mind. Sadly the incentives of the their GM aren't in line with the team in this case as its been made clear if the Cavs miss the playoffs Grant is gone.

Nothing. We have Danny Ainge, not Chris Grant.
