Trade Confirmed

Washington sends:  Monta Ellis
Chicago sends:  Joe Johnson

I still think Chicago should have traded Deng instead. I like that Bulls team with Monta alongside JJ and Iggy on the wings. Less so with Deng there and no JJ.

I think Chicago would have been better off dumping Glen Davis and keeping their JJ, Iggy and Deng trio than making this move.

Very good upgrade for Washington. JJ is a really good player and he should fit in reasonably well alongside Tony Parker and Pau Gasol.

Reason as to why Chicago agreed to take cursed Monta is because of Deng and Iggy. They can cover up whatever defensive flaw Ellis has.

JJ and Monta would be like Jennings and Monta, fighting over shots and not having good defense to give back. With Deng and Iggy, Monta can chuck shots, drop 30, and get covered defensively because both are stellar wing defenders.

I like how Monta has become the new Mo Williams in these drafts. Except Mo Williams was an all star.

I think its because Monta Ellis has been refusing to shoot over 40% from the field until someone gives him back his scooter.

TP to Yoki for the fierce defense of Monta - he's a flawed player, at times deeply flawed, but it sometimes feels like owners here would call him a detriment to any team in any context.  I'm not a fan but he's really not that bad.

Monta Ellis is a well above average defensive player at PG.

When he wants to be, I agree.  He could be an excellent two-way player if he made the commitment, but he hasn't done that yet.

He's spent his career on two dysfunctional teams:  Golden State before their recent change of identity, and Milwaukee where he never fit in the first place.  Maybe playing with a defined role on a real contender in Chicago is exactly what he needs.

Boo whoever is Chicago. You offered way more than I was willing to for Ellis.

If anyone needs to shed some salary give your friend Evan a call (that's me, in case that wasn't clear)

Yeah, I offered way better value as well.

Not sure taking on Monta is ever a good idea.

Why not? I get it. It's the CB Monta hate is it.

Chicago's defense is still stellar, maybe top 3 even with Monta (who averages 2 steals BTW). Albeit inefficient, he can still score 20 a game. He can find open teammates (5 assists per game).

Say everything about him. Cancer, chucker, etc. Chicago is not concerned. While it does not want to get rid of JJ, Chicago is still a team to beat in the East with this lineup, the team knows it and you guys know it.

#BOOM!
To me I think you have a good set up for Monta Ellis. For him to be successful I think he needs someone to set him up for drives. An article a few weeks back on Grantland pointed out that a Monta Ellis drive is as valuable as a drive by almost any player. To me pairing him with a pass first point( whether it's a point guard or point forward) would lessen the amount of long 2's he takes and confine him to doing what he does best.

For that reason I think he would be well paired with CP3 or Iggy.

I'm not saying that he's one of the best. He's just not as bad. And he's flaws are being covered by the teammates that surrounds him.

Chicago is still a contender, don't mind if everyone else hates the PG.

Yea don't really get all the hate for Monta. He's played on a ton of bad teams, the guys talent is unquestionable

This is probably the best team he has played for and he is having an awful season. That being said he doesn't have the type of players around him that maximize his talents (in Milwaukee)

Chicago is a great defensive team(if not the best) but i think they can make the case for worst FG% shooting team

Monta Ellis .399
Andre Iguodala .441
Loul Deng .424
Glen Davis .448
Joakim Noah .458

Trade Confirmed

I think having that (1) extra ball-handler and passer in JJ as well as having (2) a true 2nd shot-creator and (3) quality strong long distance jump-shooter alongside Monta ... was very important to your offense working.

There isn't enough spacing now and there is no plan B when Monta isn't able to generate a quality shot for himself. Teams can back off Deng and Iggy and clog the driving lanes when Monta is on the ball. They can back off of Monta too and dare him into long jumpers. And when that happens neither Deng or Iggy (or Brand or Noah) are strong enough shot-creators to give you a quality second option offensively. The offense will still be one of the weaker ones in the league.

The perimeter defense with Monta, Iggy and Deng is spectacular but Chicago still would have had one of the best perimeter defenses in the league with Monta, JJ and Iggy.

I think you've lost more offensively than you have gained defensively by choosing Deng over JJ.
