Sebastian Telfair Sentenced to 3.5 Years Prison

Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison Monday on a gun possession charge, according to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

Telfair was convicted of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in April. He was arrested in July 2017 after police found a loaded gun in his car during a traffic stop in Prospect Heights.

It’s not his first conviction. He pled guilty to gun charges back in 2007. He also elected to go to trial rather than accept a plea, the charges apparently have a mandatory minimum. The DA didn’t do anything unusual here.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for eradicating guns from our society by imposing harsh sentences on anybody who has a gun (I don't think they should be legal at all), but this does seem pretty harsh based on what our society allows. One would think he should actually have to do something with said gun rather than just possessing it.

A gun charge in NY is the possession of an unregistered gun... if you have a criminal record, you're going away.
