It's no accident that the Celtics chose to move out of this draft. Danny is very keen on which drafts are loaded in talent and which aren't.

This 2008 draft looks absolutely loaded so far and we have a couple guys that still have a ton of potential.

Stephen Curry with GSW seems like a good fit. Pretty tough to guard a Monta/Curry backcourt.

I am surprised that he has Paul Harris coming out of Syracuse and not Jonny Flynn or Eric Devendorf on that list.

Devendorf may not be drafted but will be considered judging on how he looked last year and the beginning of practice this year.

Jonny should (sadly) be ready to go this year and most likely will.

Paul is a first round talent but also has a family and I would assume he would want to graduate as a backup plan. He is also more of a 3 than a 2 position wise

First, TP for the Cuse love.  Devendorf was granted an extra year of eligibility and I think he'll take it.  Jonny may well go and will probably be a late lottery/mid first round kind of guy if he keeps up this level of play - I've heard at least one anonymous scout putting him above guys like Lawson as a pure point guard.  Paul is in between - he almost left out of HS so I'm sure he won't be reluctant to leave early, but it depends where he's slotted after the season's up.

Oh, and decent draft board overall, but if Blake Griffin's still available at #4 I'll eat my hat.  He goes Top 2 (with Rubio) barring injury or a serious slump - MAYBE Thabeet slips ahead of him but I doubt it.

Smallest backcourt in the league...They would have trouble on D.

I am curious as to how he will play in the NBA.  I think he is going to be a bust in the JJ redick mold.

Also, why do so many people presume he is going to leave?  didnt he say last year he wanted to graduate?

Good to see my mock draft alive on the site after 5 weeks....

to JGOD 213....yes I am a proud UMass alum and had Chris Lowe in my original mock draft, but BOY, is he messing the bed this year....his senior yr compared to his junior yr is like Dominic James' career after his first 2 yrs

Also agree with Blake Griffin appraisal....he is a monster

I need to see more of Curry to see if he's a good defender, but I don't think the Warriors care much about defense. Defenses are absolutely keying on this guy and he is still torching them. Redick had some NBA talent on his team so teams couldn't really focus their defensive scheme on him. I read that he has been playing point guard this year. That would help his NBA stock, but it seems like the sg to a pg switchover never works.

And I don't know how, but this thread came up in latest forum topics. Had no clue I was bumping it.

Can't say the talent coming out this spring blows my mind.

IMO, Not a bad draft for the Celtics to be missing a first rounder (at least initially.)

yea i would have been bummed if we were missing out on alot of talent, i think outside of the first 20 kids drafted everyone else could just be bunched together as, "eh". same quality in the second as late first.

  • Basketball is like chess, only without the dice
Interesting that he has Nemanja Aleksandrov going so high.  He has been a bit of a binky of mine for the last couple of years.  I was always intrigued by him after Ford built him up as a possible #1 pick before he blew out his knee and dropped off the radar(and the lackluster season he had before that didn't help much either I don't think).  Then when he played in the Hoop Summit a couple of years ago, I was very impressed with him.  He clearly wasn't back to 100% yet with his athleticism, but he showed that he is still a very fluid player, with good instincts, and he even mixed it up down low.  Of course he seemed to disapear for periods or time before taking the game over for other stints (which is one of the knocks against him), but the potential was clearly still there.

Before his injury, Aleksandrov was a breath-taking talent. I saw him playing when he was 16 and no other young player has impressed me more - and you can throw LeBron's rookie season in there, for example. He was athletic, big and incredibly gifted. But he was never the same after the injury, in spite of some signs of promise here and there, and I don't even know where's he playing this season. It's sad, but he's probably finished for basketball.
