I guess there may be many reasons that his players seem to love him and want to play for him.  But I would bet that one of the reasons that guys like KG and Pierce want to end their careers with him is that he's actually a good coach.

I'm glad DA got a 1st for him, but I'll miss Doc -- in the mix for the 2nd best head coach in C's history.

don't Kid yourself the first was not for him it was for CP3

Thank you for your wisdom.  I try often not to kid myself but it just keeps happening.

So when Denver offered a 1st rounder, who was it really for?

2015 unprotected exactly the puck we want, I think. This draft stinks. Next year Clips should be good. After that much more unknowable and taking a chance on the Clippers sucking never a bad gamble. Paul and Griffin have had injuries in the past.

I'm sick of it. We deserve nothing better than Antoine Walker as our head coach next year

Okay, I'll be honest. That would be hilarious. I'm on board.

I thank Doc for everything he has done for the Celtics, but I think I can move on easily than moving on from KG if he left.

Doc is a great leader and motivator, but the last couple season soured on me. Not playing our bigs and relying too much on Pierce Iso plays.

I will miss him though.

Thank u Yoki. This is the main point. I can  easily move on without Doc. KG not so much. TP

He'd still find a way to shoot the 3 pointer too much.  From the bench.  LOL.

Bye bye Doc.  Thanks for the championship trophy and the memories but it is time to move on.

Celtics ownership makes around $5-6m a year in profit, while paying a head coach $7m a year, They can now hire a $1m a year guy to coach a rebuilding team, and actually make a little money.  If Ainge makes the right moves, the rebuilding might not be all that painful.

There's an old sayin when evaluating coaches - It's  not the Xs and Os, it's the Jimmys and Joes.  When Doc had great players, he got a lot out of them.  When he had lousy rosters, his teams struggled.  He does have three 7 game series losses on his resume when up 3-2, but a lot of that was from either a slightly flawed roster or from too many injuries.

Overall, Doc Rivers was a godsend for this ownership group.  he game  them credibility for the first time with players across the league, and he led a team to a championship.  Thanks, and good luck with the Clippers.  With that team's checkered history, I'd double down on the life and disability insurance.

I hope you don't get a 'good riddance' when you decide to leave a job you gave your all to for 9 years.  Amazing the level of immature vitriol around here sometimes.

A very good argument has been laid out here before laying out the cons of doc rivers. i am not going through it all again. You can look it up.
