Title: Drama brewing in Oakland?

This probably doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but it has certainly felt like the chemistry is less great in Golden State these days than it has been the last few years. When Cousins comes in and is playing on an expiring contract, will everyone be happy with the money they make?

I think they're all sitting around waiting for things to get exciting. IN the meantime the rest of the NBA can't defeat them, so they mess with each other.

keep having connection problems, but there is an article on espn that this continued in the locker room after the game... possible Durant and Green don't get along very well and that could be significant with both facing free agency soon.

Supposedly Green threw free agency in Durant’s face during the argument. Sounds pretty pathetic by Green. Makes a terrible play that costs them, gets called out, then goes all “what do you care? you’re gonna leave anyway *sadface*.”

I think there’s a little smoke there, could be the start of something. Just need DMC to engulf everything.

Love how people are worried about our talent and touches but think Cousins can be effective in a much smaller role than he’s ever used to, coming off a major injury, playing for his perhaps last major contract.

Seeing them implode with DMC would be truly hilarious. I’ve always loved his game, but I’d love the Warriors to fail more. Cannot stand any of their stars except Klay

Egos ultimately kill everything when it comes to pro sports. GS time is coming to end after this year. I legit wouldn't be shocked to see Curry the only one on that team afterwards.

Nah. I think Durant is a goner in free agency because the scrutiny seems to get under his skin despite his insistence that it doesn't, but that makes it easier to bring Klay and Draymond back which I think they do.

Depends on what Thompson wants to do.

They are suspending him for calling him a female dog?

I mean, clearly GSW is taking a side here. They are two grown men, and suspending one player (believe me, I’m no Green apologist) for calling another player something like that, in the locker room, seems like they are trying to appease KD and his fragile ego.

You can definitely tell there's one they're more afraid of leaving in FA. Wonder how Green will take this

Exactly. If they gave him the night to cool himself off or whatever, fine. But as a suspension, this will cost him six figures. And apparently KD was the instigator, mad Green didn’t give him the ball and instead turned it over.

I’m sure it’ll blow over for now, but wouldn’t be surprised if this rears it’s head again at some point.

A blip could make things mildly interesting for the rest of NBA fans.  Its painful watching them. Klay looked like one of the best scorers in the NBA in that 4th quarter.  Not mad at 'em, but it's just ridiculous.

This is one of those fantasy-land where you have a superpowered evil empire and they start having quarrels with each other and thus they decide to destroy each other, giving the good guys a chance to step them down.

Draymond Green not happy with Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins will soon crush them. Klay Thompson can only hope that he leaves them for the Lakers next year.

Yeah, these things never last forever. The type of mental state required to accomplish what GS has accomplished these last 4 years also tends to be pretty combustible, I think.

I imagine Klay will be around forever but I guess I wouldn't be shocked by anything.

Sources say Draymond Green dared Kevin Durant to leave the Golden State Warriors in free agency in 2019, which led to his suspension.

“We don’t need you. We won without you. Leave,” sources say Green said to Durant
.

Durant can become a free agent in 2019 just before the Warriors move to san Francisco.

The Warriors desperately want to re-sign Durant.

Sources say there was a point in the argument when Durant cringed and that it went from basketball to personal.

Sources close to Green say he took exception to Durant’s criticism because he felt his desire to win was being questioned.

Rival teams and players are trying to gather more information on the morale of the Warriors.

They won without KD35 because Love and Kyrie were hurt. They lost the following year when their 73-9 record blew a 3-1 series lead in the finals. That's when they needed Durant, and thanks to Durant they bought themselves 2 straight championships. So yes, the Warriors NEED Durant to win lol what is Draymond smoking.

I don't buy the Love and Kyrie were injured thesis.
The way I see it as, after being the best team in the league for 7 months GSW entered the finals more ready than the opponent and they won 4:2.

Otherwise, you can make an argument that each season some other team should have won.
Like for example, Steph wasn't 100% the year after and they lost, or if Wade was healthier the 2nd time vs San Antonio the Heat would win. If Perk didn't get injured in G6 2010, Or if McHale didn't break his foot...

IMO, if you are the best team for 7 months and you win the finals, you deserve the title.

Couldn’t disagree more.

I think there’s a difference with not being 100% and breaking your kneecap and missing the final five games.

With Kyrie, they beat them. A better version of them (who also nearly lost the previous round).

They possibly lose to healthy Spurs in 2017 even with Durant, assuredly lose without him. They definitely don’t beat Houston last season without him, and who knows what would have come of OKC if Durant stayed.

I cannot be convinced they go back-to-back without Durant. They absolutely needed him the past two seasons.

Because the league tossed out Green and helped Lebron win another one.  I mean I hate both of those teams but that title was a little fishy.

If the situation devolves further, their best bet is trading KD for Beal.

My memory must be deceiving me at the moment. Wasn't Green finally suspended for kicking another player in the nuts? During that playoff run, I was watching the Warriors games to see how many times Green would "accidentally" kick an opponent in their package. The league should have suspended Green for the rest of the Finals, let alone just one game.

If the Warriors were dead set on making a suspension to help put this situation to bed, I'm surprised they only suspended Green. Why pick a side if your the organization? I mean, Green is a huge part of their success, and will also be a free agent at the end of the season.

Eh, that series changed the second Bogut got hurt. Lebron was settling for jump shots when Bogut was in there.  As soon as he got hurt, Lebron went into attack mode.  Without a big strong center, nobody stops attack mode Lebron.

And playing the "Green was suspended" game just leads to "Kyrie and Love missed the Finals the year before." The Cavs won that championship, no asterisk.

i don’t know why everyone is arguing

The original question (the basis of this thread) was “did Golden State need Durant to beat the Cavs”

The answer is clearly no. If that series was played again, That 73-9 team could have done defeated the Cavs. The Cavs would win the series if played again as well. The winning team would be the result of  a dice roll. Both teams were equally good but golden state didn’t NEED the 2nd best player of basketball in the world added to their roster to defeat the Cavs.

They don’t get to the Cavs without Durant.

In this alternate reality, Kawhi doesn’t get hurt in 2017 series.

Truth is, they had major, major help via injuries to opposing threats every year they won. People can hold on to Green missing one game as the sole reason they lost in 2016, but the losses of Kyrie, Kawhi, and CP3 were huge.
