Sort of surprised no one mentioned Perk yet.

Another thought and forgive the spelling Emeka Okafor?

Cheap pickups and veterans for 5-10 a game

As a short term signing while Baynes is injured, as short term added depth options, how about:

(a) Tyler Zeller
(b) Brandan Wright
(c) Willie Reed

Current free agents who can provide some depth behind Theis and Williams.

I like Reed the best. A big body. Something different matchup to Theis & Williams and to Zeller and B.Wright who are both lightweight. Reed offers some muscle.

What about Tristan Thompson? Never liked the guy but man can he rebound and he can switch out on defense. I think he would fill the hole for Baynes and he has championship experience. Is he too expensive?
Thompson makes over $17 million a year. Trading for him has to start with giving up Smart because you will need his salary to match salaries.

That should end that idea. Unless of course you would prefer to give up Tatum/Brown or Tatum /Morris or Brown/Morris as a substitute for not including Smart? Either way, Ainge isn't thinking about adding a big on a big contract.

Nope none of those are any good. Maybe the owner should do us a solid and buy out TT.

OP was talking upgrade not downgrades, perhaps.
