Key Matchups
(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/3007.jpg) vs (http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4287.jpg)
Kevin Garnett vs Joakim Noah
Noah brings a lot of energy to the Bulls and he is a presence in the paint.  KG has to match his energy.   In the past,  Noah has been able to get to the basket at will for rebounds and tip ins.  He is also blocking 2.02 shots a game.    Noah finished with his second career triple double in the second meeting between these teams.   KG has got to box him out and defend the paint.  This might be a good game for Doc to give Collins some run if Noah starts to go wild inside.

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/3959.jpg)  vs  (http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/3632.jpg)
Brandon Bass vs Carlos Boozer
Carlos Boozer has been playing well and had big games against the Celtics so far this season.  Boozer totaled 19 points and a season-high 20 rebounds in the last game and he had 4 double-doubles in his last five games against Boston.  Bass must slow Boozer down both on the boards and on offense.

Honorable Mention

Paul Pierce vs Luol Deng
Pierce and Deng are always a fun matchup to watch.  Deng is long and a very good defender and has been able to bother Pierce in the past.   He will make Pierce work for his points.  Deng has also been shooting well and leads the Bulls in scoring with 16.9 ppg along with grabbing 6.8 rpg.  We will probably see some Jeff Green on Deng as well as Pierce.

Game Notes

The Celtics try to get back on track as they host the Chicago Bulls in their last game before the All Star break.  This is the 4th and final meeting between these two teams.  They split a pair of games in Chicago with the Celtics winning the first 101-95 and the Bulls pulling out the other 100-89.  In their last game, the first in Boston, the Bulls won 100-99 in OT when Marco Belinelli hit the game winning shot with 3.1 seconds left in the game.

Although Derrick Rose is rumored to be getting closer to a return to the active roster,  he still isn't cleared for full contact.   His replacement, Kirk Hinrich has missed the last 6 games with an elbow injury and will be out for this game as well.  Former Celtic Nate Robinson will start at PG for the Bulls.     The Celtics lost their 3rd player in the past 2 weeks to a season ending injury on Monday when Leandro Barbosa tore his ACL.  He joins Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger on the shelf for the rest of the season.    Rondo will especially be missed in this one as he loved playing the Bulls and was averaging a team high 25.3 points in the 3 games against them.

The Bulls are a good road team with a 15-9 record while the Celtics have been playing well at home with a 19-9 record. The Celtics have also won a season high 6 straight at the Garden including the triple OT game against the Nuggets on Sunday.   The Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 games while the Bulls are 5-5 in their last 10.  Both teams are coming off a loss.  The Celtics lost a close one to the Bobcats after playing a triple OT classic the night before.  The  Bulls lost a blow out at home to the Spurs, who were playing without Parker, Duncan and Ginobili.

The Bulls are coached by former Celtics assistant and defensive guru, Tom Thibodeau.  It follows that they hang their hat on their defense.  They are 3rd in the league in points allowed, giving up  just 91.94 points per game on 43.0% shooting.  The Celtics have improved defensively over the season and are 10th in the league, allowing 96.3 points per game on 44.1% shooting.

The Celtics are looking to begin another win streak after their 7 game win streak was snapped by the Bobcats in their last game.   The Bulls would also like to get back on track with a win in this one.  The Bulls are 4th in the East, 3 games ahead of the Celtics, who are in 7th.   After moving to within 1/2 game of the Hawks in 6th they have now slipped back to 1.5 games behind them.   This is the final game for both teams before the All Star Break.

Keys to the Game

Rebound -   The Celtics are 29th in the league in rebounding, grabbing just 40.04 rebounds per game while the Bulls are 6th with 43.59 rebounds per game.  The Celtics  have to box out and keep Noah and Boozer from getting easy tip ins and to keep the Bulls from piling up the second chance baskets.  The Celtics have got to crash the boards as a team.  Rebounding takes effort and every player has  to put out that effort.

Defense
- Defense has been the Celtics strength in recent years.  It has also been a strength for the Bulls. The Celtics defense finally showed up with the return of Avery Bradley and for the most part,  has been solid since his return.   The Celtics need to match the defensive intensity of the Bulls and even exceed it if they want to come out of this game with a win.

Be Aggressive - It's no secret that the more aggressive team gets the calls and usually the win.  The Celtics must start out being aggressive  and keep up that aggressiveness until the final buzzer.  Against the Bobcats, the Celtics let up and allowed them to be the more aggressive team and it cost them.   They have to be aggressive on the boards, in defending, in going after loose balls, and especially in getting inside to the basket instead of settling for outside jumpers.

X-Factors
Home Court and Focus
The Celtics are at home and need to get a boost from the fans.   They have to focus on doing the things that helped them win 7 games in a row.  Advance the ball with the pass and move it around to find the open man.  They also have to get into the paint and not settle for outside shots all game.

Pretty crazy to look at what we have on the bench. I am guessing you'll be hearing some rumors tomorrow. Hopefully we can get a W before the break!

Much needed win for fan morale.

They just got blown out by the spurs without their big 3...No reason we shouldn't win

Nate Robinson doing a nice job pushing the ball in transition. Nate looks relieved when he doesn't have to face a set defense and Avery Bradley's pressure defense.

Think Danny let one slip? "We have two hall of famers that are playing at a really high level right now, and we want to give them a chance to win".

Guess that means KG and PP aren't going to be traded... unless Danny gets some sort of mindblowing offer.  Danny is a poker player though, can't trust what he says.

So Pierce was playing with a pinched nerve in his neck which according to Ainge was the reason for his poor play during our losing streak. Makes sense, Piece didn't look himself for a while.

Well Danny if you were to tell us that a player was hurt while he is struggling fans/media might be less likely to jump all over said player.

Its not Danny's job to keep the fan base and his competitors informed about the physical limitations of his players. If you want to speculate about why a team is doing something and think its because of certain players or coaches or whatever, that's on you(or me for that matter, I do the same thing). Danny and Doc knows what is really going on and I trust them to do what's best for the Celtics.

I'm not sure I would want the Celtics being run by a guy that runs out there every week telling the fan base not to worry about Pierce because he is playing through a bad back, or that Terry's inconsistent because he is fighting through a bad shooting slump and bad hamstrings, or that it's taking Bass a while to get in shape after not working out over the summer and showing up out of shape. I don't want my team's GM letting the entire world know this, especially the team they will be playing next.

What I do mind is him insisting on taking contested fadeaway midrange jumpers like he thinks he's Michael Jordan- usually I don't mind but tonight is clearly not the night for that.

Green was getting guarded by rip Hamilton and doc didn't call a single play for our most athletic player with a three inch 50 pound advantage.  Stupid.  Post him up every play.   Force deng to guard green.

It's not like our defense has regressed without him due to coaching.  That 07 defense was super dominant but the fact our defense has only been great without thibs and not all time great is because we haven't had fifty quality (healthy) bigs like we did that year and ray and pierce's primes all ended.

Thibs did the right thing, we did the right thing.

If doc had retired you might have had a point.

Just get the W. All that matters.

I dont min pierce shooting no matter how bad he's been shooting.

Funny how when pierce Isnt in taking terrible shots our offense explodes.

Someone give me my tommy point.

This is where Green is different than early in the year. If he struggled shooting early on, was a complete nonfactor. Tonight he is 1-7 from the field, but is playing great defense, moving the ball, a few blocks, even is rebounding okay.

Great post.  Tp.

Green has finally gotten over the mental hump that the only thing he can do to help the team is score 20 points.  The defensive energy has been amazing lately.  It's been very Bradley esque. He's had some monster moments.

He's been shooting the corner three well.  Better than josh smith and josh would be jacking them up like crazy given greens looks.

Made a thread about it the other day.  Green isnt ever going to be a superstar but he is
Certainly capable of being a starter on a championship team as the third best player.  Range athleticism and fantastic defense.  I'm incredibly excited about his potential.

Crazy finish.  I probably would've broke my TV if Gibson made that garbage.

Collective sigh of relief.  Memo the the club: relax after the buzzer, not with 2 minutes on the clock.

OK pierce, please do your thing. Can't take losing to the bulls again like this.

If Pierce had hit some shots earlier we wouldn't be in this mess. But I appreciate the W.

Knew it..just knew it.  1st to 70 would win the game.  Just didn't want to say anything.

I'll take any win, any day.  That was ugly though.

Rough shooting night from PG-JG,  but Jet ('climb on my back and we''l go for a ride in the sky")  continues to step up and a nice offensive effort from Brother Bass.  Give a cheer.

Talk about a couple of teams that desperately need their star PG's back.

Pierce (and Rondo of course) are not in the game in the 4th quarter - what happens ? the ball movement is outstanding, the team is running and attacking the basket.

re-insert Pierce and what happens then ? the defense quiets down, the running stops and most of all, the ball stops moving because it is in Paul-iso-Pierce's hands. he & KG play a bunch of 2-man inside/out all by themselves for what, four possessions while Green, Terry, Bradley, Bass, etc stand in the corner and watch. the lead is lost and we barely hold on at the end.

when are we going to stop having one guy dribbling the clock down while the other players stop moving.

that 4th quarter run was so much fun to watch !!

Liked Bass's energy tonight.

Big hoops from KG and Terry seems to have a knack for hitting a shot when no one else can put the ball in the ocean.

WINNING UGLY
