Last July, the Angels were the runner-up in the bidding for Mark Teixeira. This year, they finally got their man.

On Tuesday, the Angels made the kind of deadline blockbuster they're often accused of never making when they traded first baseman Casey Kotchman and pitching prospect Stephen Marek to Atlanta for the right to run Teixeira out there as their first baseman for the next two months.

Link.

Nice deal for both teams.  Tex was the type of player the Angels needed, while Kotchman is a nice young player who fills the Braves' void at first (for a much more affordable salary).

After this trade, I'll be shocked if the Angels don't win it all now.

They have unreal starting pitching and thats without their 18 game winner last year in kelvim escobar.  And now with this Teixeira trade they have the best 3-4-5 combo in the majors.

Plus, you know the Angels are destined for something this year when John Lackey comes into fenway and is now 1 inning away from getting a no-hitter.  We usually own him like there's no tomorrow.

Wouldn't be surprised at all now if that Tejada trade happens for the Red Sox.  I think they may feel obligated to make that trade now since the Yanks and Angels have made good trades.

Angels certainly seem to have the Sox number this year.  It's always seemed to be the other way around.

Great job!

I think NESN did a hell of a job at that as well.  Did anyone else notice a little difference in the way they covered this possible no-hitter compared to the Lester and Bucholtz ones?

I remember with Bucholtz, they stopped even showing the hits on the scoreboard after the 6th inning or so, but in this game, almost every other word out of Orsillo's mouth was no-hitter.

This is an incredible pick up for the Angels. They have some crazy pitching and now their offense should be putting enough run support every day to make them an unstoppable force out west.

If the 'Sox can reach the postseason, I'll still take Beckett in game one over anybody.
