i think he was one step ahead of the headsman. LA wasnt going to keep him for next season anyway.

so, what next for the evil empire west? what poor shlep will they invite to run the ship now?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Huh.  I can respect not wanting to be a lame duck, but I would have expected D'Antoni to stick around for his paycheck.  I guess coaching Kobe is that bad. ;)

I thought LA agreed to bring him back, but Pringles wanted LA to pick up the last remaining year on his contract to make it a two-year guarantee.

I won't be surprised if Mike Woodson is the next candidate in.

So in the past three head-coaching positions for the Lakers...they'd have three different Mikes.

I wonder if some other team is offering him a multi-year contract.

He had it rough with all the injuries to Kobe, Nash, and Gasol, but he hasn't had success since his Phoenix days, when a prime, healthy Nash ran the offense. Seems like he may be a one-trick coach.

A candidate Lakers management and Kobe Bryant share a fondness: Euro legend Ettore Messina. He impressed as assistant under Mike Brown.

Possible there won't be a superstar coach available to Lakers, but there's a hometown kid on fast-track to become one: UConn's Kevin Ollie.

Surprised but hey, if you could not have to work with Kobe and collect money, wouldn't you?

Plus in retrospect a ton of talent on those teams.  Perfect situation.

But I am reminded of the Lakers with Nash and Dwight being penciled in for the title.  Smile on my face.

In the NBA?  I am not so sure.  In Europe I wouldn't be surprised.

Messina was Brown's assistant?
