In a deal that cements him as the franchise’s long-term cornerstone, Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns has agreed to a 5-year, $190M super-maximum extension, league sources tell ESPN.

Wiggins and Towns on Max contracts and they haven't done anything yet. That's how you dig a hole as an NBA franchise. I don't think that these two guys and some other good players bring you even a finals appearance.

I agree. Their two best aren't exactly go getters.

Funny enough, with Butler having his own locker room issues, he probably has a better team impact than Towns, from what I can tell.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

So I guess with this signing, the news that Kyrie hasn't talked to Butler in 2 years and that Kyrie said he sees himself staying in Boston for the next few years means we can all stop though ridiculous trade Ideas of Kyrie for KAT.

From an outsider's perspective, I wouldn't call the idea ridiculous. Sure, it isn't as plausible now, but from what we knew a couple of month's ago, Butler and Kyrie were at least semi-interested in teaming up. Combine that with KAT being a 22 year old extremely skilled big who could learn under the tutelage of Horford and Rozier's playoff surge and you could have had a powerhouse for years and years to come without the possibility of losing your best player.

With a little more of a 'commitment' from Kyrie (it certainly isn't set in stone), it sets the original plan back in motion. That doesn't make it any easier for Rozier fans who have to prepare themselves for his eventual departure.

There was never any interest from Irving's side of things. It was always pure baseless clickbait seculation. Someone edin the media found out Butler and Irving was friendly on Team USA year's ago and made up rumors. There was never anything based in facts.

I like KAT's talent, but I don't know if he has the heart. But I guess with Jimmy on his way out, they had no choice.

No brainer. You've got a 22 year old who just averaged 12 rebounds a game and shot 42% from three (.596 eFG%). You give him max money and thank the basketball gods for the opportunity to do so.

I've got no problem with Minnesota giving Towns that kind of money, he's a savant on the offensive side of the ball. You can live with him being an underwhelming defender.

The real problem in Minnesota is the money they gave to Wiggins, he's not a positive contributor in any meaningful way whatsoever. That is the contract that is going to haunt them.

Towns is still young, don't let some players fool you, it usually takes time to mature and get you to your best self. He is still an excellent player before he figures it all out.

I wouldn't change our team to get him b/c of his defense and I don't think he's ready to win a chip but it doesn't mean he isn't a really good YOUNG player!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)
