Another game that the Celts should have won.

Those who watched the game against the Wiz saw how Smart kept taking bad shots or ill-advised shots.

While it's true that Smart is the heart and soul of this Celtics team, I think he should realize that teams are letting him shoot for a reason.

I think this happens whenever one of our core 4 are out. Didn’t watch today, but it often annoys me

I agree. Sometimes he has this "no, no, no, YES!" shots but more often than not, he gets tunnel vision. There was one point during this game when Enes had a mismatch in the paint and Smart dribbled into traffic to take a contest fadeaway shot. That's just not his game and never has been.

Yes, he has to take open shots to keep the defense honest, but he plays a little selfishly at times.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I hope you aren't trying to put the loss on Smart, because the whole team earned this one. It was a team effort of sucking (with the exception of Tatum and Waters)
I'm bitter.

Rather than play like the starting point guard, and playing within himself, Marcus played like he was the two guard coming off the bench and there to provide short term energy. Marcus played like it was up to him to play like Kemba. That's certainly not a good look for Marcus.

I agree when one of the 4 are out, we don't have answers off the bench at all. Our bench is very young and inexperienced and sometimes play like it.

No, this is not on Smart alone.

Even Jaylen Brown was trying to do too much.
He was just 7-22 FGs, 2-10 3pt FGs, and 4 turnovers.

But if Marcus Smart is playing the PG position, he should make smarter decisions.
There's a reason why teams are letting him shoot.

It's a good thing it's still January.

The loss versus the Wiz can be put in the "part of the learning process" category.

hated his game tonight

the good thing is that he doesn't have bad games like before

CBS though should have played Waters more who was making things happen, getting to the basket/scoring

I was saying that in the 1st half. Waters is probably the quickest guard defender on the team and he only played 8 minutes. It was the 1st game I hated watching this year.

a lot of bad shots by everyone but no way Smart should ever be shooting 10 shots in a game, nevermind 10 3-pointers

Smart is what he is offensively and on most nights he is probably okay in his role. But then there are nights like this where his offense as a whole is terrible and he just keep jacking shots. Hayward, Brown, Kemba, Tatum....they are the guys that even though they are missing they should keep shooting. They are scorers and once they hit that next shot, they could go on a run. Their history shows this.

But Smart isn't either the scorer or the shooter those 4 guys are and should know his role. He isn't as good as he thinks he is offensively.

That said, if anything he did lost this game, it was his defense. He was abysmal.

And with that said, Smart didn't lose this game. The team as a whole, even the coaching staff, lost this one.

We really miss Kemba.

I mean, we barely beat the Hawks (8-28, dead last in the NBA) and the Bulls (13-23) and we lost to the Wizards (12-24). It's not just about the results though. It was fairly obvious that the team needed an offensive spark. Waters did a great job off the bench. Perhaps CBS should have given him more minutes.

Fwiw, Brown took a lot of bad shots tonight as well. It seems that Kemba makes everyone around him better. As far as I can tell, the same goes for Waters.

I think Smart probably thought he had his shot going when he made his first few 3 pointers. Of course he them missed the rest of his shots after that.

The whole team was cold tonight though.
