watching these playoffs its been kind of sad watching the nets. Kevin Garnett looks to be a shell of his former self. only scoring about 4-6pts a game as they get demolished by Miami in the 2nd round. Pierce still has some left in the tank. but he's no longer the 18ppg guy we had before.

If we had kept Pierce/Garnett this would be us getting demolished in the 2nd round. No extra first round picks and No lottery pick.....no mans land

Exactly! Good to see people are coming around. The only problem is that Ainge didn't blow it up all the way. If that was the case they would be assured a top 3 pick. As it stands this team will probably pick 6-8. Not high enough to get a can't miss prospect but maybe someone will develop in that range.

It was safe to say that about a month into the season when it became apparent KG and PP were not what they once were.

was hoping KG would have a little something left just for this series with the Heat but he was cooked long before the Heat was applied to him ;D

I hate(love) to nit pick, but no team is guaranteed a top three pick.  Not even the worst team in the league.

And even if we traded most of our productive vets, I highly doubt we finish worse than the Bucks did this year.  Or Philly for that matter.

No team is assured a top 3 pick and the prospects aren't really can't miss.

That was pretty apparent in last year's playoffs.

It was easy for me to like the trade the day it was made because we got 3 1st round picks for 2 aging superstars and I was shocked and thrilled Ainge got 3 1st round picks Pierce and KG!!

I still don't think of the trade in right choices and wrong choices -- for me, the right choice was to let Pierce have the option of retiring with the Celtics.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
I would like to say it was a smart trade from Ainge. KG/Pierce weren't the go to guys, or scorers, that they used to be anymore. I still think a healthy Rondo last year, we might have been a dark horse.

After the announcement, I had previously decided to make a trip to see KG/Pierce at least one more time, and was completely devastated. I really wanted to see them one more time, but I will always cherish them. It hurts my heart every time to see Pierce and KG in different uniforms.

We learned this the year before when they wore Celtics uniforms.  Not sure why anyone needed more convincing.

Probably, but the jury remains out until we see what Ainge does with the assets he acquired.

The trade has always been a steal assets and value wise... From a nostalgia point of view it's still hard to stomach pierces departure.

From a talent point of view, it looks like we "won", although 1) we won't know until the picks are cashed in; 2) it's hard to put a price on loyalty; and 3) that Gerald Wallace deal still doesn't expire until 2016.

Too early to tell.  It still pains me to see Pierce in another jersey.

You really have to wait & see what the Celtics do with this picks whether its using them to actually draft or moving them as part of trade packages.

Personally, for me, it's hard to say whether it was the right or wrong choice.

Sure, after 2 losses in the playoffs vs the Heat, it's kinda easy to think it was a no-brainer.

But, like others have mentioned, I think the jury is out until we know for sure what Ainge ends up doing with those draft picks.

So I guess my answer would be....I don't know.
