Must be nice to be a team in a city where players want to go play.
We've signed top free agents three times in 5 years....

Three B-level stars. Still no cases of "the best of the best" wanting to play for Boston.

How many times have A) your so-called "the best of the best" been available & B) the Celtics have had cap space at that time to acquire them?

Durant was available and didn't choose Boston.

So, one guy.  Once.

Wonder if Oladipo to Boston could be a very likely destination for him, since we could use the TPE to absorb his contract?

For the record, the Heat were trying to sign Hayward in 2017, yet he singed for the Celtics.

But yeah, Miami is a top free agent destination alongside NYC and LA. It's not just the weather. Florida has no state income tax, whereas for instance Massachusetts has a 5% flat tax. To put it another way, free agents would make more money in Miami than they would in Boston (assuming both teams offer the same contract).

LOL Oladipo today rated higher than Kemba when we signed him.  Say what.

Just want to point out that California has the highest percentage of income tax in that graph yet it's still the top NBA free agent destination spot.

I don't think they give two poops about hollywood.

It's the advertising money opportunities that they have for being part of those franchises in big markets, and although Boston doesn't quite match LA in that sense, it comes darn close, as does NY and Brooklyn.

All that advertising income more than makes up for the state income taxes.

Also you are taxed based on where each game is played so it’s not quite the effect it sounds like

So, one guy.  Once.

Small sample size, but not meaningless.

There was also AD making it clear he did NOT want to go to Boston, and that if he were traded to Boston, he would NOT stay with the Celtics beyond the time left on his deal.

And I'm not sure if we ever got a public declaration from Leonard or LeBron about Boston as a potential destination, but they at least made it clear by their actions that they preferred L.A. over Boston.

So, it seems to me that in the minds of the NBA's elite, Boston is an also-ran.

Second- and third-tier stars will come here because the Celtics have a good culture, a respected coach, and hey, Boston has to spend their money on someone, right?

This is one big reason why Tatum needs to become a legit top-5 player, because those players aren't choosing to come here.

That's what I was getting at. I didn't mean they want to make movies, I meant the general allure of the biggest West Coast market.

Wonder if Oladipo to Boston could be a very likely destination for him, since we could use the TPE to absorb his contract?

Good point. Houston doesn't want longterm salary back (few teams can trade for Oladipo and comply them) and with only one year left on his contract they can't ask for huge assets. And we know that Ainge asked for Oladipo during the Hayward negotiations with Indiana. Very interesting.

Romeo and Nesmith is the max I’d offer. Keeps us below the tax line
