Sean Payton, head coach of the Saints, has tested positive.  Was tested after showing some symptoms.

This makes me so glad the NBA pulled the plug when it did, seems like half the league would've had it in a few more games. Would've been better a week earlier of course but the degree to which it already spread was incredible.

...of course that assumes everyone got it in the course of their work which isn't a certainty, especially as we get farther from last Wednesday.

yeah that decision seems like a no brainer in hindsight.

People blame Rudy Gobert, but it was going to happen to someone.  Gobert’s behavior presumably brought the league to a an earlier close, and also ended March Madness and conference tournaments.  Otherwise we could have had another several days of hundreds of thousands of fans attending games.  It really was a blessing in disguise.

Did it strike anyone as surprising that it took 5 days for Smart’s results to come back?

Of course it’s good that he followed protocol and self-quarantined, but how strictly do you think most 20-30 year olds (or younger) who feel perfectly fine (assuming he did) would adhere to the quarantine? 2 months since first American case of Covid19 and it still seems that testing is terribly inefficient.

Tell me how outraged I should feel about that.

I think it depends on what testing kit they are using. I think there are ones which takes 24 hours, some longer. Some of the ones we use here have results in 2 hrs

The reason for the delay is probably because it was done through a private lab. Private labs in Massachusetts take between 3-7 days to get your results back. State and federal labs are much faster.
