It is an interesting question really.
Randle has played in slightly more regular season games, but if you include the playoffs, Smart has played in more. During the regular season Randle has 39.3 win shares vs. 32.6 for Smart. Randle has made the all star team 2 times, 1 2nd Team All NBA, and finished 8th in MVP voting in a season, while Smart has the DPOY and 3 1st Team All Defense. Randle has 7 seasons of top 20 rpg finishes, 3 top 20 ppg finishes, and even 1 season of a top 20 apg. Smart has 2 seasons of top 20 apg and 4 seasons of top spg.
So it basically boils down to would you rather have the defensive specialist or the more well rounded player. I'm not sure there is an easy answer to that question. I do think if you redid that draft though, that Randle would go higher on more teams boards since he produces more statistically.
It is a pretty interesting draft when you really look back on it. Obviously in a redraft you'd have Embiid and Jokic (or Jokic and Embiid) going 1 and 2, but after that you could have maybe 10 different players be in consideration at 3. Smart and Randle obviously, but then you've got Wiggins, Capela, Gordon, LaVine, Dinwiddie, Nurkic, Grant, Bogdanovic. Then a 2nd group of guys like Powell, Anderson, Warren, Harris, other Harris, Clarkson. Strange draft with the 2 all timers at center and then really a whole lot of meh.
