Stevens.

For realizing it was time to step away from coaching and bringing in the right guy to replace him and for the personnel moves.

Ainge did a lot of the grocery shopping but Stevens was the one who figured out the recipe.

The recipe was Tatum, Brown, and Rob maturing.

You don't think Steven stepping away and bringing in Udoka played a role?

How does this team do with Stevens this season?  Does the season start the same way it unfolded?  Does the team flip the switch?

So you’re saying Stevens gets more credit for winning because he’s a worse coach?

Voted Ainge but it’s probably both, to be honest. Getting away from an undersized scoring PG wasn’t going to happen with Danny, but Brad might not make the same draft moves that DA did.
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.

Ainge bought the groceries, Brad Stevens found the right recipe and Ime cooked it into a great meal.

That's how I look at it.

They were a game away from the finals recently and collapsed

Looks good but the series is not over yet so can’t come to a final conclusion.

It's Ainge.  He built this team and all but a couple of misguided picks and trades, it's his team.  If those work out, then Brad doesn't have to make as many deals as he did.

To me, the secret ingredient in the recipe or whatever metaphor you want to use is the trade for Al Horford.  He not only was able to come in and shore up our greatest weakness in the core rotation (PF) he has actually made it into a strength of the team.  There have been a lot of players that have improved (Tatum, Brown, Smart, RWill, GWill).  But for all of them it feels like just kind of normal expected player development.  Ainge picked them, Stevens developed them for several years, Udoka seems to have taken them even further.  I feel it is the players that deserve the most credit for this.

But even accepting that Horford has been an important addition, I am not sure how much of the foundation laying for the trade was done by Ainge before the official reorg was implemented.  The trade happen really soon after.  I guess even if Ainge was involved, clearly Stevens liked the trade and got it done so credit to him.

I am going to go with Ainge.  However, a very underrated part of the building process is that Stevens took pedestrian players and made them into tradeable assets.  For example, remember Jordan Crawford winning player of the week and then being shipped out?

He also was great at putting guys in a position to succeed and hiding their deficiencies.  IT was a top 5 MVP candidate under Stevens.  Crowder received a large contract when he moved on from Boston.  Avery Bradley never came as close to performing elsewhere the way he did in Boston.

Building up these players gave Ainge the flexibility to deal with the money and the roster properly, which set the stage for Stevens to put on the finishing touches this year that hopefully get us back to the finals.

Ainge made the masterful trade with Brooklyn to get Tatum and Brown. Made the masterful trade with 76ers to draft Tatum at #3.

I'd say mostly Ainge. But Stevens made moves to further help Ime and the team get to this stage of the playoffs. He'll be up there soon

How about KG and Paul Pierce--for agreeing to be traded to Brooklyn in the first place??
--they didn't have to do it.

Leave one ingredient out of a recipe and it doesn’t work. Equal credit.

This is easy it's Ainge.  Steven's wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Ainge so anything Steven's did is also tied to Ainge.  No Brainer.
