Gersson Rosas is out as the Minnesota Timberwolves' president of basketball operations, the team announced Wednesday.

"Today, the Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas," team owner Glen Taylor said in a statement. "As an organization, we remain committed to building a winning team that our fans and city can be proud of."

The Wolves hired Rosas, a former Houston Rockets executive, in May 2019, making him the highest-ranking Latino in a front-office position.

The Wolves finished near the bottom of the Western Conference last season at 23-49.

I wonder if this is related to his inability to land a "big star".  Taylor allegedly wanted to make a splash this off-season.

Might mean Edwards is now available in the Simmons trade.

To be a fly on the wall of that meeting with Glen Taylor.

People on Realgm had a good point. Wiggins + #7(Kuminga) for D'Angelo Russell looks like an awful deal.

Of course Towns was the one who was demanding they acquire either Russell or Booker. Danged if you lose Towns danged if you trade for the guy to keep him there. Rosas is the fall man for a continuously dysfunctional organization.

In wake of Gersson Rosas' departure, word has circulated among league sources since Summer League that incoming Minnesota Timberwolves owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez have communicated they are fond of Sixers general manager Elton Brand. A name to keep an eye on here.

Elton Brand is about to bring his old buddy Ben Simmons to Minny.

Well if that’s the case he won’t have to worry about making a free throw in the playoffs anymore

If Minnesota hands Philly a king’s ransom for Simmons I’m going to be seriously bummed.

Can’t imagine the Wolves and Sixers would be allowed to trade for the season if they wound up hiring Brand out of Philly.

Minny hiring Brand wouldn't restrict the Sixers and Wolves making a trade.

Sure it would.  He’s under contract with Philly, and the league puts in restrictions when hiring a coach or executive who’s under contract with another team, so that a trade in the short term wouldn’t be part of compensation for hiring the coach/executive.  This is because the CBA prevents players from being traded for coaches or executives, and they don’t want some handshake agreement that becomes a trade in three months.  This is why the Celtics and Clippers couldn’t trade after Doc went there, for example.

The timing (a week prior to training camp) and abruptness (he was conducting meetings) of the move indicates that ownership must have severely disagreed with him on a recent major issue.

The Timberwolves being rumored as one of the teams interested in Simmons and having a prior relationship with Morey. I’d speculate that Rosas was either labeled incompetent and/or treasonous due to this Simmons situation (possibly recommending a lopsided trade package in favor of the Sixers).
