Turned down $112m extension from the Pacers then rejected the $45m from Rockets, only to take a veteran minimum from the Heat. He made Dennis Schroder look like a genius.

I hope Smart is watching the free agency right now. Celtics might be offering the best contract of your career right now.

you'd have to think what happened to those 2 players has to be spinning around in the heads of Smart and his agent.   It's a more than fair deal for him.  can't imagine there's a much better deal out there for him next season

At least Oladipo still has Bird rights.  Schroder is just screwed; it’s either cap space or the MLE for him next year.

Schroder will be fine if he doesn't get hurt and plays like he has the last few seasons.  He will find a team that will pay him.  Oladipo is too injury prone to find a big contract, even with him still having Bird rights.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Oli really should be the last guy who would want to gamble given the injuries.

Same observation I have with Kemba, he got bought out, left some money on the table, but regained most of the difference with the new contract... only thing is that he doesn't have the Bird Rights after, he's making great money anyways so it's not the end of the world for him.

99.9% of Americans would love to be screwed like that and there's plenty of NBA players that would be happy too (e.g. Drummond who is making vet minimum now).

I don't know the specifics, but it seems most don't expect Oladipo to ever be able to get back to where he was physically a few years ago.

You hate it for a guy, but that door swings both ways. He's signs that extension and Indiana has a noose around its salary cap neck that they'd be giving up multiple #1s to ditch the contract.

Don't Drummond and Oladipo have essentially the same contract?
