A stash pick! Awesome! We don’t need more guys on the team right now. If anything, we need to consolidate some players for upgrades (or accept that some players will barely get minutes).

I'm not convinced it's a wasted pick, although, I can't believe for the third year in a row, we selected a SG!  That said, the kid has really good size, 6'5" with a 7' wingspan and about an 8'9" standing reach.  Wonder if this pick means Romeo is dealt in a package for Beal?

Beal is off the table, he wants to stay in Wash.

Sounds like a great pick for the second round.  Stash-able if necessary.  Open to G-League or 2-way, seems to have natural tools but needs some polish.  Having never seen him play and overall not knowing anything about him other than what I have read this morning, it is hard to make any real judgement on him, but it seems he is well worth a second round pick.

Now of course someone taken at #52 or whatever is probably going to become a star and we will hear for years how Stevens blew the draft but there is a chance that Begarin is that guy and Stevens will be the genius.

I saw those reports too.  We'll see what the year brings, but, what's a team like this do, if healthy:

RWill, Horford, Tatum, Brown, Smart

TT, Parker, Romeo, Nesmith, PP, Forunier

I mean, we're ten to eleven deep without Moses Brown or GWill.

Still think trades are coming, maybe not for Beal, but a PG.  How do we get Lonzo?  S&T with Fournier?  Deal for Smart?

So, just regarding how this kid is described, I’ve dubbed him the French J.R. Giddens.  Fair or unfair, relative to their skill sets on draft night?

There is one really big difference.  Giddens was 23 on draft night after 5 years in college, 2 at Kansas, 2 at New Mexico, and one year off in between due to transferring.   Juhann Bergarin is 18 (albeit almost 19).  If they are comparable in terms of "skill sets on draft night" at a point where Begarin is 4.5 years younger, then that is probably a good thing.

When you see Maledon, an euroleague player and elite in youth french teams felt 34 and Madar was taken in the same range, it is funny that with this year supposed so loaded draft we took an unproven guy from PRO B a very poor league, with some clubs close from non pro organisation.

I get that the guy has some physical measurment that NBA like but he isn't at all a very big french talent. He comes from INSEP the national excellence formation, it is a good fondamental formation but offensively he is only a transition player. He shot 22 pct last year from FIBA 3. He is from Martinique like Gelabale or Beaubois but not at all the same potential offensively. I listened an interview he is a hard worker and will probably have a long career... But probably in Pro A or Europe mid pack teams. Not in NBA... or he has to cross big gaps... Wingspam isn't everything.

He's definitely a project player with upside. He's only 18 so that gives him some time and room for development. Sounds kind of like the French Jaylen Brown (athletic, not great specific basketball skills, ability to play very good D, but drifts on team D, good in transition, hard worker, good wingspan).

Yes maybe he will be the Pro A Jaylen :) Again in Pro B he faced very limited level. Even day one he is a far more uncertain prospect than Maledon or Madar byexemple. At best there is 3 chances on 4 he never see an NBA ground for me.

I nailed it this year. I never even get close when I try to predict who they will draft, so this year, I decided to guess who they would not draft, and I chose Cade Cunningham.

So basically your typical number 45 pick?

The guy is what he is. He's a lotto ticket who if he works out plays a very valuable position and has more than end of bench upside because of the measurables. in a perfect world he develops into a bench wing who in a year or two replaces Nesmith or Langford after they are traded for an upgrade. But if he never develops nothing really lost.

No I don't say it is something impacting our future or that we could pick an NBA playerat this range... Just said last year they were much better euro options a little lower in the draft with Maledon or at the same range with Madar... And the draft was supposly less deap.

Thanks for the background.  I understand nothing about the different levels of these Euro leagues.  In Baseball, often players are drafted out of high school, but then play in the minor leagues for several years.  NBA used to draft out of high school but they had to go straight to the NBA.  One year of experience at a US College is still not that much to go on but it is a baseline that we all understand.  One year of French Pro B means nothing to me.  I guess it is something more than high school but something less than Division 1 College?

This is still a mid second round pick.  If the Celtics saw something there that they like, great.  A young man is going to develop a lot from age 18 to say 21.  He can stay in Europe or at some point come over as a G-League or 2-way player if he does continue to develop.  We are fans so we tend to get excited thinking this guy is going to be a steal.  The hidden gem we found in Europe.  Every once in a while, it turns out to be true.  There are steep odds to overcome for it to happen though.
