Did you know that Ime Udoka is engaged to Nia Long? Don't understand how this could have gone unreported until now.

Engaged?  We’ve seen this before.

I didn’t know he went to Bill Russell and KC Jones alma mater, San Francisco!

Does not look like he played much though. It’s amazing that he made it to the NBA at all.

The Dons getting 3 Celtics coaches and he’s from the Pop tree is an interesting story though. Hopefully he succeeds! Brad seems confident in his choice to be so decisive.

Stevens interviewed Udoka....then called up Greg Popovich (Udoka was assistant in San Antonio for 6 or 7 years)...then interviewed a bunch of other guys then hired Udoka.

I assume you can do worse than going with Popovich's recommendation.

The team has officially ended the era of Danny Ainge.

You can chalk that up to a basketball media that goes back only to Michael Jordan, much less Magic and Larry.

Bill Russell and the Celtics dynasty teams of the 50s and 60s  the current media never heard of. Imagine winning 10? Titles in a row. Some of us have been spoiled by that experience. Russell was the first African American head coach of the '69 Champion Celtics  in any major sport.

WEEI, by the way, got it right. Udoka was one of the five possibilities they mentioned, which I posted here somewhere a couple of days ago.  He'll be good.

Even so, how'd he miss Doc?

In the 40s and early 50s, USF was a major basketball and football power. I believe Bear Bryant invited them to play a game against  U. Alabama  in Alabama when he wanted to integrate the Alabama football team.

Russell and KC played on the same champion basketball team at USF. Bill was also a world class high jumper there.

Long before Doc, Bill Russell back in 1966 was the first black coach in NBA history:

Don't forget about Satch too. (Although I can understand wanting to forget the late 70s).
