i'm chinese myself and i'm very proud of the opening ceremony- finally a sense of pride in chinese tradition can be felt.
Are you Chinese by heritage or are you literally from there? I was just in Beijing earlier this year, and I loved everything about the city (except the pollution, but that goes without saying).
I'm having a great time watching the Olympics, though I'm only getting to see whatever Korea is involved in. It's awesome that they're doing so well (third in overall medals, second in golds to China). Korean patriotism is out of this world. I was lucky enough to go to a Korea football match against the Netherlands last year in Seoul World Cup Stadium and it was amazing. Also, and I wasn't here for this, but the way this entire country galvanized over the 2002 World Cup was something really spectacular, too, apparently. Seoul was just basically a party for the event and the next few months afterward.
I think it's really interesting that since America is so good, we have to be more selective about who we support. I mean there are dozens of American gold medal winners every few years, but we only support people like Rulon Garnder and Kerri Strug because of the additional aspects to their stories. Here in Korea, though, they go nuts over anyone who wins a gold.
