Is that the whole trade? No cash going to Houston?

If there's no cash exchange, I have to think Houston might try to see if the kid is beyond repair, rather than just cutting him.

Rockets are in asset collection mode

I predict this will be Kevin Porter Jr wake up call.  He knows this could be his last chance

Rockets may have come out with a steal, as long as KPJ reaches 80 percent of his ceiling

I wouldn't have expected him to get cut.  He clearly has talent and I just keep coming back to, sometimes people just need a chance of scenery.  Absolutely worth the flyer if you are the Rockets.  If he works out you've just gotten a young 1st round talent on a super cheap contract for basically nothing.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

did Houston just get rid of Harden and now acquire another team's problem?

He's had issues for years. At some point, "change of scenery" has to give way to professional help. Seems like the Rockets are hoping Coach Silas - who has somewhat of a track record connecting with troubled athletes - to take on mentoring him.

Its pretty telling though that the best offer on they could get was a top 55 protected 2nd rounder. This really may be his last chance on an NBA roster to show some serious emotional development.
2021 Houston Rockets

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

With all the picks they got for the Harden trade, they have more picks than they will be able to use so why not use one to bring in a player they can try to use this season.  This is the kind of thing that a team in Houston's position can do.  If they can shine him up to have some value, they flip him in another trade down the road.  I doubt he is ever viewed as part of some future core or anything like that.  Just a move with the potential to be an incremental asset improvement.
