Windhorst said that Houston is now trying to get Paul George for Eric Gordon plus.

Windhorst says Houston trying to convince PG to join CP and JH.

Ainge will have to include the LA pick, it looks like, to get PG.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
The fit baffles me.

In a system that needs just one ball dominant guy, they now have two. Who's going to sacrifice something here?

Personally, I think that's a solid haul by the Clips to for someone who's going to leave anyway. Lou Will and P-Bev will always have trade value.

Good deal for both sides because
Houston:  Impressive work to get a player of that caliber for so little.  You basically can't turn that down.
LAC:  Was probably going to lose him for nothing anyways.

Deal is kind of a head scratcher though, because:
Could LAC have gotten more in return?  Would NYC not have given up a better asset like Hernangomez to acquire CP3 now that Phil is out?  CP3, Lee, Melo, Zingis, Noah/another C is a really good starting 5 with some flexibility to go small with Zingis at the 5 and Melo at 4.

Is Chris Paul really a good fit in Houston?  I think he's going to make Harden (who doesn't move off the ball) less effective and CP3 will naturally slow down Houston's offense, where they thrived when playing fast last season.

CP3 could have opted out of his contract.  Essentially he told the Clippers to trade him to Houston if he didn't exercise his opt out.  So if he didn't want to go to NY, they couldn't trade him there.  LA could get something for him, but the return was limited because otherwise Houston would say no and just sign him in free agency.

So itd be eric gordon plus 2-3 low first round picks.

Crowder/Bradley LAL pick blows that away any day.

LA pick not on table per Bulpett

Exactly where does he say that?
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Want to add that if this deal is being completed before July 1st, Houston is not sending out enough salary by a few million.

I'm going to respond to myself by predicting Trevor Ariza is also included in this deal.  Otherwise the numbers don't work.

Houston doesn't have much to give.  I don't think Gordon gets them anywhere.  IMO Crowder > Gordon, especially given that his contract is better.  Throw Bradley into the discussion, and it's not close.

So, time to snag something nice off of LAC's fire sale?

Who would we want from LAC? Other than DeAndre Jordan, there seems to be no attractive piece on that team that's worth giving assets for.

Considering how much Paul and Butler cost in terms of asset, you would think PG13 is really affordable.

Also, now those who wanted to trade IT for a bunch of mid firsts would be content with 2nd rounders.

Does this mean we will lose the opportunity of Blake because now he will sign the max with the Clippers and Chris is gone which may make him happier?

Speights? Mbah a Moute? Granted, I'm not even sure whether they're under contract for next season, though (both seem to have opt-outs?) -- but Speights, in particular, is a good depth option for a team like ours that's starved for a low-post presence.

Also, Speights is now shooting threes all of a sudden and making them at a 37% clip?! What gives?

Right.  Certainly, many teams could/would have offered more value in a vacuum, but that's why I posed it as a question and specifically used NYK as a place of possible interest for CP3 -- a team in a big market (useful for a guy big in sponsorships) and where he's already friends with Carmelo.  I would have thought Boston could have been a desirable destination for him as well, or SA.  He could have become the best point guard in the eastern conference instead of having to battle with Curry and Westbrook 4x a year plus playoffs.  I find it odd for CP3 to be saying "Houston and nowhere else".

Why wouldn't Houston wait and sign him outright?

Probably not a good sign for the Cs pursuit of PG13.
