So it sounds like a lot of this hardball stuff by Indiana is to try and take advantage of the situation with Hayward. They know that Ainge is wanting to agree to a deal BEFORE free agency to help lure Hayward here. However, if we get him here without having a deal in place already, then Indy loses a lot of leverage and will have to accept a much lesser offer than they're demanding now.
We don't need to act desperate here. Even without George a core of Horford, Thomas, Hayward, Bradley, Crowder, and our young guys is better than what he has in Utah and Miami. We can sell him on the idea we can make a future trade for a star with our assets, but it doesn't have to be George. Plus with our cap situation I think it would easier to sign Hayward first then trade for George, not the other way around.
I don't know if that team is better than what they have from Utah, or at least what he might be able to expect with Gobert and Hood reasonably making jumps. Assuming of course Hill returns. Gobert especially is a piece Boston doesn't have and you can't reasonably expect to ever have.
