I can see Dallas racking up a lot of losses to end the season but I still can't see Utah catching them for the 8th spot.

Mavs have a 3 game lead on Jazz already and the Jazz still have Wizards, Cavs, Bulls, Rockets, Thunder and Warriors to play and I could see them losing all of them and come out of the next 12 game stretch with only .500 win percentage, not enough to catch Dallas.

Mavs are finally losing and making up for all their earlier miracle wins  we need this trend to continue and then some due to the Jazz cratering as well. If it weren't for the Jazz, there would be a VERY good chance this would be pick #12!

Wow, that Utah pick is at 12. I don't see Dallas catching them at this point, but that would have been a pretty sweet deal. Even 16 isn't bad, though.

Definitely and it's important that they win a couple early on. If they lose a ton early in the season, there's always the chance they tank and the pick rolls over to the next year. That wouldn't be the worst thing, but if we want a good return on the pick this year, they've got to win enough to keep them in the hunt for the 8th spot for a while before it all unravels, which it will because there's no way that team makes the playoffs in the West.

I'm giving a 6 month late TP for this post, as this is the first post I see in the thread that lays this out correctly.  Dallas is on track to do exactly what everyone was hoping for: look feisty until February, then lose all their games in a row.  They didn't exactly do that, but they could finish as low as 11th or 12th and most likely 14th or 15th.
