Let's go Celtics! Please don't shoot as many 3s as last game!
This was a disappointing game for me.
OK. The Celtics played their backups the 2nd half, much like the Red Sox have been playing their jayvees lately, but I found their lack of ball distribution and excessive 3P shooting troubling even in the first half, when they had a 15 point lead.
The 2nd half was a disaster, as the supporting group kept throwing up bricks which would have made Red Auerbach cringe. Everybody wants to be Larry Bird--or Danny Ainge.
It was all reminiscent of that disastrous game 7 finals in Boston. What was their 3P shot % that game?
In this one, it was 20%.
I guess Stevens was more interested in getting some practice at 3P shooting, rather than winning. At least I hope so, or it's going to be a long season.
Let's go Celtics! Please don't shoot as many 3s as last game!Right, shoot more of them, ;D

Pretty sure he never flew down to UNC with the team.
Should have plenty of minutes for Sleepy Williams without Horford at Center.

Isn’t it on NBC Sports Boston (formerly Comcast sports net)?
What a great day for Boston sports. Watched the Patriots blow out Miami. Then picked up Sox in the 2nd inning and watched them blow out the Yankees in their final game of the season to finish with twice as many wins as losses. Now, turning on the Celtics who have a full roster tonight.'

Dear Sweet Baby Jesus,
Please, oh please, don't let this nonsensical, ticky tack officiating spill over into the regular season.
So far it has been unbearable to watch with how the refs are calling fouls. Absolutely no flow to the game.

I'm sorry, but this is an effing pathetic showing by the officiating. Being in the bonus less than six minutes into the game on ticky tack crap is inexcusable. This isn't about you, refs - let them play!

Hayward is getting rooked out there
Two guys in the row behind me:
Guy A: Hayward has three fouls in six minutes?
Guy B: Yeah, he wants to get out of there and play Fortnite.
What a play by Rozier!

Refs in midseason, i.e. terrible, form already!

I expected them to drop confetti after winning the other night.
Tatum is offOh...
Yeah, we're pretty rusty lol And this sketchy officiating isn't helping matters at all.
Free Williams
Really wish we could see Williams instead of Theis with this lineup. That's a long, athletic, and fun lineup.
Not a fan of these long twos by Tatum.
Tatum again!
Tatum again!
And again!
TATUM UNLEASHED!

monk is killing us
Tatum: 5/12, but has made his last 4 shots. Dang.
The versatility and depth of this team is tremendous.
Reminds me a lot of last year's Raptors, who were so deep that their primary bench units usually won games for them. The difference is I think our top five is quite a bit better than their top five last year.
Kyrie doesn't need the preseason.
Kyrie doesn't need the preseason.
His defense looks better than last year already...
Brown is getting jobbed by the refs this game.
Smart is shooting 1.000% for the preseason
New and improved
You can tell Gordy is still getting used to the speed of the game again. Can't wait to see what he adds to our offense when he's full speed again.
Just noticed the 14 seconds after the offensive rebound. That'll take some getting used toForgot they will be doing that from now on. Guess it’s OK.
Interesting - Rozier, Kyrie, Brown, Hayward, and Morris. Super small!
Kyrie is unreal

Plays like a big point guard...
Charlotte shouldn't have had that, scorers messed up on the 14 second rule (again)
Kyrie is a magician with the ball.

Smart had a lot to do with this lead just by coming into the game.
Hayward looks 2 steps behind.
Rozier just oozes confidence.

Will be really interesting to see what role he takes, especially with Brown and Tatum emerging so quickly as scorers. If you remember last preseason, he was very tentative feeling his way into the offense, too, similar to Kyrie.
GORDY WITH THE BLOCK! That has to be a big one for his confidence.

Robert Williams time!
Williams looks bigger than I expected
Williams looks bigger than I expectedRight there with Biyombo, who is a sizable guy
Did Smart block Kaminsky's shot?
Have been unable to watch the last couple of games on HD on verizon fios in the greater boston area, is anyone else having this problem?
It's available in standard definition, but for the first 2 games of the preseason has been unavailable in HD, says it's blocked, but they usually don't block games unless ESPN is showing the game and they haven't shown either there.
Williams can already defend....
I think we all kind of forget how unstoppable Kyrie is...
he is almost unguard-able when he wants to get to the rim
Williams looks bigger than I expected
Williams can already defend....
He looks like he can at least give spot minutes right now. He is more quick / nimble than I expect, so bigger and faster than I thought.
williams looks to be a very good defensive player. right now he lost at times, but that is to be expected.
great physical ability, i expect him to block any shot near the basket.
Smart's shot didn't count? wow...

3rd unit bricking shots once again.

Bridges is going to be a stud.Yep, good pickup. Think I like him more than Knox
Williams!
Williams has good hands.
great plays at both ends by Yabu

Still in awe of how big Williams looks.
Great play by the Bull-Dozier

Wow nicely done. Great play call by Brad. I'm glad we're using Yabu's giant behind down low like that.

Yes - it’s not just the shot he blocked, it’s the several more he altered. That was a very very Encouraging showing.
Couldn’t figure out, though, why he ended up doubled into guys way above the key a few times in the fourth quarter. He’d switch onto a guard defending a pick and roll, and his man would slip to the rim with nobody following. That got Charlotte a couple easy buckets. Not sure whether that was on him or the other Celtic defender or they both failed to communicate.
DA...might have found a diamond in the ruff in Williams. At the very least he's got fouls that can be used against Embid or any other bigs who can present matchup problems. But I'm intrigued enough to wonder whether might find his way into the rotation the 2nd half of the season? He doesn't at all look lost out there which is certainly encouraging.
He does not seem lost at all, really focused on the court. I gotta admit im a bit surprized. That kid that went to the Heat was flat LOST on the court.
Williams might be useful by Xmas at this rate . He is good match for Capella than Baynes.

Didn't see the game, but all this talk about RW guarding the 3 point line has got me giddy. At times, he looked lost on defense, chasing perimeter guys.
What about his switching instincts? Any better this game?
Did he run any pick and roll on the other end?

I think our D still has a ways to go to get the elite status, not having Al probably played into that.
Some guys are showing signs of shaking off the rust like Tatum, Irving seems locked in. I think the other guys will be fine. If memory serves, Hayward missed quite a few shots last preseason, too.
I think it comes down to playing at game speed and practicing are two different things. That is why folks should always practice shooting at game speed. He will be fine, just takes some time.
Nope. It has been proven that getting more reps with half speed then going to full speed is better than going at full speed everytime. You get burned out faster and get fewer reps which wont help build muscle memory. There's a reason there are tuneups, preseason, warmups etc in all aspects of competition.
A little trick that Steph Curry’s trainer possibly uses to push beyond game speed

2. You MUST Workout at Game Pace
In order to work out effectively and improve your basketball game you need to be taking game shots, from game spots, at game speed.
Let me say that again because it’s very important… The only way to get better is to take game shots, from game spots, at game speed.
You can’t walk or jog through your workout. You don’t do that in games (well you better not be doing that in games). You have to make your workout as game-like as possible.
This means sprinting during drills, exploding into your shot, getting low on your dribble moves. If you finish your workout and you’re not drenched in sweat, you didn’t work hard
enough.https://www.basketballforcoaches.com/musts-for-every-workout/
7. Not training at game speed
Again, taking rhythm shots is great for locking in your form, but I can't stand watching players take a couple hundred shots and then calling it a workout. Train like you're in the game under game-like conditions!

Shoot Like A Pro By Practicing At Game Speed
While recently visiting Phil Martelli, coach of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and one of the great teachers of the game, we discussed this very question. His contention, as is ours, is that practicing at LESS than GAME SPEED is the #1 reason for poor game shooting.
What’s the science behind this assertion? Learning the proper amount of power needed to score from a particular distance (developing muscle memory) requires a great deal of repetition. If practiced at a slow, comfortable speed, the athlete is not TRAINED to deliver the shot at the speed required in game conditions – when defenders are trying to block the attempt. What most do not realize is that before a shot is taken during a contest, with exception of free throws, the shooter only has milliseconds to determine the Distance and then and come up with the right answer for the amount of power needed to score (muscle memory).
TRUE STORY: A college player we worked with struggled with game shooting success even though he shot 500 shots a day for 5 days a week during the off-season. The problem was, he shot at ¾ speed. It was hard for him to understand why he couldn’t score in games since he worked so hard and practiced so much. We then gave him this example. If you say 2+2 is 5 and say it 500 times a day for 5 days, what answer will most likely FIRST pop into your head if asked, “What’s 2 + 2?”. That’s when he got it.
QUESTION:What kind of misses do you think the player in the above story had during a game? Short or Long? Hint. The faster the body extends during the shooting motion, the MORE power is produced. If you said LONG, send a quick email to let us know that you get it. Send it to Jay@starshooter.net or Ryan@starshooter.net
Tip for practicing at GAME SPEED. As soon as the ball starts upward in the shooting motion, say “Game Speed” as fast as you can. The ball must be released before the “d” of Speed is heard. After you become more comfortable executing at this level, you don’t have to say it for every shot but do check yourself from time to time throughout your practice – especially if you start coming up short.

Your advice might be sound in grade school. But game speed and game situation is for the big boys and girls who want to play past biddy ball grade school. Sports training should be sports specific.
Another thing I was happy to see in this game was that Tatum kept shooting even though he struggled in the beginning of the game. That lead to his 13 point explosion in just a few minutes.
I want him to maintain that level of aggression as we head into the regular season.
